Going to Las Vegas tomorrow ... anything I should do while I'm there?
:D I get a vacation! Ok, it's only for the weekend..but I need it.
So, I'm going with a friend. Actually she's gettin' married.
Any place we should go that's a must see or do? :D

Should I be a good girl or a real bad one?

1. Attach a strong chain to your pants, attach the end end to your wrist
In case you lose them in some casino

3. NYNY Roller Coaster at night!
Front seat - it's awesome. Keep your head back or you'll get whipped around. Forum Shops in Caesars is pretty neat (just to walk thought, it's pretty $$$). FatBurger is GREAT if you've never had it - it's between Aladdin and MGM in next to Walgreens. If you have time, you could go to the Hoover Dam. Also, if it's open (it wasn't when we went in Aug.), you could take a gondola ride at The Venetian. It's pretty relaxing and nice to pretend like you're sailing through Venice. I think there's a restaurant at the top of the replica-Eiffel Tower, that might be good.

Most importantly - HAVE FUN!! Vegas rules...

I've been to the Eiffel Tower but never went up in it.
I also went to the Venetian.. that place is gorgeous! We are actually staying there. But I never took the gondola ride :( I was afraid I'd fall in :D

8. I don't gamble much and I love Las Vegas
It's just so outrageous and I walk about in awe at American excess. So if you're a Star Trek fan, hit the Las Vegas Hilton. The ride is expensive but the museum is great. Not worth it if you are not a fan. You have to see the Volcano at Treasure Island and try to see the show. It's fun. The Venetian is fun to walk through and hear the gondola singers. Don't gamble there since you will lose. Walk through Caesars and the mall. Try to see the statues come to life. Fun. Bellagio is beautiful and worth a visit. I had fun at the wax museum. The roller coasters at the New York are the scariest I have ever been on.

My husband likes to gamble and I don't. I still have fun in Vegas.

I have also hiked near Vegas. If you are looking for an alternative to the Strip I can help.

but the sky. I like roller coasters but I stumbled off wondering if I could do it again. Of course, I did but I was scared.

53. I feel the need to caution you...
Edited on Sat Jan-03-04 01:24 AM by Heyo
...I had the best time while in Vegas the whole time...

...and even though it was probably just a freak thing.. it's worth mentioning since people are suggesting the NY roller coaster...

That thing bent my neck forward really hard during one part. (I'm a skinny guy, 6' and about 165)..

Maybe I looked down or something but I think it was your standard inverted loop...

The G's caught my neck the wrong way and my head went all the way forward and I couldn't pull it back up and it hurt pretty bad...

Happened so fast I am not sure about all of it... but it was enough to make the rest of the ride suck pretty bad and it was damn sore afterwards..

I was okay, and felt much better a few minutes later...

I usually am a champ at coasters.. I always go on the scariest ones multiple times even... this one just caught me off guard.. it was kind of a jarring, rough ride... but it does go THROUGH the Casino on a little stretch and that is bad ass..... :9

Just thought I'd mention it.

-Heyo

PS: Everyone else who went on it with me had a great time.

15. Go see Siegfried and.... oh wait!
I thought of more things for you to do... if you want to gamble at all, we've always had the best luck at Excalibur. It's kinda dumpy, but my mom won $1500 last time she was there, and another $700 the time before. They seem to have pretty loose machines. If you're into Lions, go to the lion habitat at MGM. See the Bellagio light/music show, every night I think on the half-hour. It's free and really good. If you're feeling really brave - try the rollercoaster/bungee jump off the Stratosphere. Circus Circus has this dome in the back with a theme park inside (if you have younger children.)

25. I second that
Do the Rio's seafood buffet. Best buffet in all of Vegas. It's not too far off the Strip.

Also the following are donating big bucks to Democratic candidates this year according to OpenSecrets so give 'em your business: Hard Rock Casino, Stardust, Sam's Town, Eldorado, Joker's Wild, California Hotel & Casino, Fremont Hotel & Casino, Main Street Station. I think all of those except for the Stardust are off the Strip.

Sam's Town is on Boulder Highway and they have one of the best buffets in Vegas - although not as good as the Rio.

20. Go downtown: Freemont Street Experience
I've never been there either (after going to Vegas SIX times), but it would be interesting to go to once. Lots of lighs. Also, check out Fashion Show Mall (between Frontier and Treasure Island). They were remodeling when I was there last summer, but it should be done by now and would be interesting to see what they have done. Also, next to MGM Grand is Funworks, which has next to it the Coke store and M&M store. Upstairs in M&M world, they have every color of M&M ever. You can mix them up into your own custom bag, so that might be fun...

I went there in August, and the first day we were there it was in the 60s, cloudy :( But the next two were upper-80s and sunny. We stayed at Caesars and relaxed at the NICE pool the whole time. It was great just to do nothing.

Even with the weather - you'll still have a ball...

Walk through - yes, put a dime in the slots - NO! My grandma didn't leave the casino the whole time we were there, and she lost her ass. Check out the pool, just tell them you left your key card in your room - it's awesome. One pool has columns and a big dome in the middle.

It was always booked when I went there. Maybe if you called ahead NOW you'd be ok, since it's the slow season, but it's pretty popular. You may have better luck with Mystere. Just DON'T go see Rita Rudner! If you walk through NYNY, you'll hear her annoying voice on the big screens, which will be enough Rita for you!

Once, while in high school, I was trapped on the bar, convinced that if security helped me off, thay would find the sheet of liquid acid I had in my pocket (food coloring containers come in handy).

They helped me off, told me to have a nice day, and I arn off screaming into the night. Ah, to be 17 again...

44. Go To The Valley of Fire State Park
Take I-15 North toward Utah to the Overton exit (about 50 miles outside Las Vegas). Go through Overton (a little one-horse town) and follow the signs for the Valley of Fire State Park. Red rock formation as far as the eye can see.

Well worth the trip. I used to live in Henderson, and we went to the Valley of Fire every chance we got.

46. OOOHHH! That's one of my favorites!
At sunset and for a few hours after, at Atlatl Rock just off the road, the bats come out. If yer inta bats, it's the place to be.

More importantly: if you should go to Valley of Fire, get out of the car and walk down the canyons (what's it called? "Mousehole" or something like that?). There's a lot of history there: the Cavalry chased Indian banditos through the canyons, and there are some of the best pictographs in North Ameroca available for public viewing. Wildlife is pretty neat, too; for example, this time of year the wild mustangs come down from the mountains, through the Paiute reservation, and into the Valley of Fire area.

there's some excellent hiking out in the boonies just out of town. And since it's winter, you won't roast. I'd pack my hiking boots, water bottle & hat, check out the local hiking websites - hmmm, localhikes.com might have some suggestions & they're pretty good.

So how's that for something different to do in Vegas?

But the have a nighttime cahmpagne toast and short helicopter ride over the city... circle around the Stratoshpere tower.. for only 59 bucks per person.

We did it in June... fantastic..

Vegas is such an overwhelming place, there is so much incredibly cool stuff to do there there aren't words for it.

Enjoy!
