Question about "Power of 10" workout.
Is anybody doing this? It is the workout that Barbara Walters and Leslie Stahl swear by and did a piece on TV about. It is 20 minutes a week and is slow heavy weightlifting. I was thinking about getting the book but wondered if anybody knew what type of equipment was required. Is it just hand weights or does it require the big heavy equipment found at the gyms?

1. They just did a spot on it on my local news
I find it hard to believe that 20 minutes of weightlifting a week will do anything. Pilates, on the other hand, will change your body.

3. yeah, on lesson nine Pilates ripped my rotator
and made me go through rehab, surgery and more rehab. Other than that it was great!

4. Some of the positions are difficult.
Did the instructor show you any modifications? I've done Yoga and Pilates, but I know my limits and don't try to force myself into the most advanced positions.

5. That sucks!
Were you doing it on your own or in a class? The instructoe should have been more aware of your limitations.

2. I guess it's Super Slow
weight-lifting by another name.

You basically lift weights that are heavy enough to lift only for 8-12 reps on the count of 10. Count to 10 lifting up; count to 10 going down.

It generates muscle growth.

I would love to do this; but b/c of my leaky mitral valve I cannot. :-(

6. Usually low rep and heavy weight builds bulk
I have a tendency to build muscle so I opt for the Yoga/Pilates route to lengthen muscles.

Do you have other exercises you can do with a leaky mitral valve?
