I used to buy fresh fish every weekend at the farmer's market from a guy who drove in from Bodega Bay. Now I'm in the Midwest--a long way from any fresh seafood.
But I've hatched a plan. I need to buy a deep-freeze and order halibut from Alaska. There are also several companies that will overnight albacore, snapper, and grouper from the Sea of Cortez.
There's no real point to this post. I'm just pining for fish, on the off-chance that some fish philanthropist might read this and send the executive jet my way with a load of fish.
In a last-ditch attempt at making this post resemble something other than a plaintive cry for seafood, I guess I should ask, has anyone ever had fish overnighted to them? Was it worth your while? How much mercury does it take to kill you?

we get fresh fish flown in daily from all over. you can even buy it wholsale. there are several fish houses in the market district, and as long as you buy a case, or sometimes a half case, they mostly do not care who you are.

We get reasonably fresh fish here in Pittsburgh but it's just not the same without the salt air.
One of the best things about a beach vacation is to search out the local source for fish--usually with the shrimp boats bobbing out back and a dog sleeping on the front step. Tell them what you want and they go to the cooler in back and get it for you giving you a scribbled receipt on pale yellow paper. Last time we were at the beach we had crab cakes, shrimp on pasta with a lemon cream sauce, fried fish...I've got to get to the shore.
