Anyone else hate it when you're having a leisurely pajama dressed
Edited on Sat Jan-03-04 02:09 PM by MrsGrumpy
Saturday morning/early afternoon....and then your Mother in Law comes over unannounced? Grrr. This has just happened to me. Of course there are crumbs and sticky stuff on the table, my son looks like a refugee from Mars, and I haven't had my second cup of coffee yet.

Why can't people call anymore? I really enjoy having company, but my Mother in Law does the look around and raise eyebrows thing.

For background, this is the woman who picked out a color and painted my bedroom (MY sanctuary) when I was out of town. This is the woman who came to help out when I was in the hospital and told my husband there were bugs in all the laundry since I had left them on the laundry room floor. :eyes: He believed her...I have yet to find one bug and yes I still heap clothes on the laundry room floor.

This is the woman who told me just a few minutes ago that I should really put the open box of cookies in the fridge because they'll "get all buggy in this house".

Okay, I really want to smack her...really really hard. But then I'd feel guilty...so I won't...I'll just develop an ulcer over it.

AGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!

End rant here....

Go Packers! I bet she'll come over tomorrow right at kickoff I bet.

:( :( :(

5. Another note is that this woman is a clutter bug. She has a table
right now heaping with papers...but THAT'S clean dirt. Hee. Man it felt so good to vent.

3. You know what?
Just tell her it's your home and you would never dream of telling her what to do in hers.

If you shut up and let her do this, she's going to think she has the right to...

frankly your husband should be doing this..he didn't marry his mother.

8. We have had umpteen countless fights over this...almost walk out the
door fights. Happily, she is not the one we choose to come help when I am sick anymore, but good Gawd I wish the woman would call.

I do think you are right. It's a real sticking point in my life right now. :(

Thanks, you!

25. Have you guys considered counseling or a retreat?
This is a big sticking point for many marriages. Going about it yourselves when there is no shortage of expert advice seems like torture.

This is her way of hanging on to her son and his way of letting her...he would never have sex with his mother, therefore there should be no comparison.

6. I hate it when that happens
I like for people to at least call first for the very reason you gave. I'm having one of those days today.

It sounds like you have the mother in law from hell. I feel for you. I'm still recovering from both of mine coming after the baby was born.

It's amazing they let you keep the kid. :)

Thanks, and I hope nobody pops in on you today!

I expect to be called, and if I don't get a call,I don't open the door unless I feel like it. The older I get,the less I care what anybody thinks about what I do:)

9. My mother seemed a little miffed about my pretzel pajamas yesterday!
Of course my kids had to explain why they chose them for me - that terrorist pretzel that almost got W*. I have them on at this hour because I've been straightening up and cleaning AGAIN. I've repotted 2 indoor plants and have one left to go which must be done before I clean the kitchen counters really well and mop the floor. I hate to do laundry so I shall remain in my pjs until these chores are completed so that I have less laundry to do.

while doing housework. Sorry about your mother-in-law. I guess I got lucky. My m.i.l. and I are the best of friends, although she can be kind of much. She called at midnight once because she couldn't sleep and she occasionally comes over unannounced, which I hate because I'm a slob and she's neat as a pin. She never says anything about it, though. I guess she knows what living with her son is like. I guess I should learn to be a better housekeeper since we're all going to be living together soon. Hang in there and have some more coffee. :)

Set it up so she walks in on you and her son some Saturday morning...That'll make her more open to the idea of "Call first"....

Better yet, send her to MY place...
Unless she LIKES middle-aged naked fat men...I don't do PJ's...

17. I hope you repainted the bedroom bordello red and put up off-color
pictures just to spite her! Well, maybe you wouldn't have to go that far, but I can relate!

My MIL wants her Sonny-boy and I to move back to live near her and he is even the least favorite of her kids. She just wants everyone back nearby so she can be more "involved."

She is not exactly like your MIL with the snoopy sniffer and the white glove act, although that would drive me just as crazy. She is more like the yuppie-ish suburban type that likes to act superior. Always goes out of her way to mention her travels and expensive purchases. I'm pretty sure the Europeans probably hate her when she goes over there! She talks loud and always talks about her antiques, like she'll sigh and say "I haven't had them all appraised, I don't even know what they're worth!"

She always nosy-nebs into what my husband and I pay for things and asks us if we want the antiquies when she dies. She gets mad because we say, "No." We don't want to play!

She always acts like we are some kind of wild bohemians and says we are so different! I wish I was. We are really boring, but just don't aspire to her in debt lifestyle. She doesn't even know that we do have some nice stuff, but it is stuff that is not showy and she just thinks it's weird and not "the good stuff."

21. We (hubby/I) had a HUGE fight because I am going to repaint the
walls. My whole house is in deep earthy tones. She picked BRIGHT spring GREEN for the bedroom. :puke:

If I wasn't so lazy (;))I'd have done it by now.

I bet your Mom in Law talks about what's classy and what's not...this is a major talking point with mine. Aren't they freaking annoying sometimes???

28. She talks about it all the time,
but her standards are so narrow, she thinks most things are too "unusual." She thinks that's bad. She is definitely a "Babbit" and of course a Republican. We have a lot of Asian decor, because we both love that, and she told me that you should only have one Asian thing in a room. I said, tell that to the whole continent of Asia. But of course she wouldn't care, they're not Americans, so obviously they are just strange and unusual.

I would definitely repaint.

22. Do you have any sort of financial dealings with this person?
Do you owe her money? Does she contribute to the cause?

If not, tell her she is no longer welcome in your house until she can control her mouth or gets some professional help to deal with her "bug" obsessions.

27. We contribute to her cause. Thanks to Bushco, she's been
unemployed since March. I buy her groceries once a month and hubby gives her money each week to help her keep on top of bills.

I don't think she's really trying that hard in the new job department. She quit her last McJob because, "my boys said they would support me" :eyes:
