My friends have been in the islands for the last two weeks, and I heard about the rains etc. Is it really that bad? They've been island-hopping.

Kihei, Maui, Hawaii right now.
It must be really bad because it hasn't rained in Kihei all year. In fact, it NEVER rains in Kihei. We are supposed to be on the dry side of the island. However, the place looks beautiful now that the rains have come. It is so green on this side of the island.
If I am on the leeward (dry) side of the island, it must be pouring on the windward (wet) side of the island.
We have been having a drought for some time. It is nice to see some rain for a change.
This downpour is somewhat rare. It doesn't usually happen for this long.
I suspect it will be like this till Monday. After that, it should be OK, but not extremely better.
My friends on the island of O'ahu said it is raining there as well.

4. Haven't seen rain like this in YEARS. |
|
I don't remember it being so constant, day after day after day and really heavy.
I was just saying to a coworker the other day that I felt really bad for any tourists here now.
Hey, its stopped now!

and never seen a period where the rain went on for such an extended period of time. Prior to this - 2 days tops. This time we had 4 days of rain, followed by 1 really nice day, then back comes the rain for the 2nd day now. Not a downpour, but a slow constant drizzel.

Rock slides, power outages, flooding rains, high winds.
But I'd rather be here than anywhere else.
Also, out here we never get national news coverage. If this happened on the mainland, it would be big news.
