2. No, worry about your crack blocking!
Don't ask me. I don't know what the hell that means.

It just sounded funny.

4. It means all the fluids in your car freeze
and expand and crack your engine...then you'll be fucked

3. Get an extension cord, QUICK.
Speaking from experience of one who had a motor home block cracked, in Alaska. Plenty of anti-freeze, but not plugged in.

Beg, borrow or steal a heavy duty extension cord.

13. I used to have a house up near the border
and it got cold as hell in the winter. New Haven never gets that cold because of the sound, but I want to head as far south as I can get someday.

8. I've never heard of a block cracking in Alberta
I suppose it could happen if you just have plain water in the rad, tho. Probably the worst thing that could happen is that you turn the key and get <click>. I'm lucky, I have one car in the garage, and my van starts no matter how cold it is. In fact, I just learned the van's block heater hasn't been working for several years now. Built Ford Tough, before they decided to switch to making crappy cars.

Gotten lucky with the Mountie yet?

10. The Dang Mountie is spoken for!
Drat!

Well I don't have just plain water. It's about a 60/40 antifreeze I split think.

11. You should be OK
But get a cord soon, a Vancouver car prolly won't like the cold very much. Actually, I think it's the oil getting hard that makes it hard to start when it's cold. (If that's not true, I'm sure gonna hear about it) I used to drive a Bug around in the winter, scraper in hand, and you still needed to plug them in despite being air-cooled. It was the slushy oil that got you.

Consider yourself lucky, you're the first place to get the chinooks. One night you'll go to bed with it -30, only to wake up almost in shirtsleeve weather.

9. I would get one. I have had cars freeze up here at that level. It sort
of depends on the car and how much antifreeze it has.
Better safe than sorry.

RV, who has faced -56 degrees and no car starting.
