What politicians have you met or shook hands with?
I met Howard Dean at a rally in Boulder, CO. I shook his hand after he gave a rousing speech. Who have you met.

Edited on Sun Jan-04-04 01:04 AM by Punkingal
Al Gore, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Dennis Kucinich, Harry Reid, Jim Sasser(former Senator from Tennessee), Lamar Alexander(:puke: on that one)Mario Cuomo, Edmund Muskie, Congresswoman Shelley Berkley, Congressman Lincoln Davis of Tennessee, (I went to college with his wife) and I fully intend to meet all the Dems who are running this time when they make it to Vegas.

And I forgot one, Clinton's Secretary of Labor in the second term, a really nice African-American man, but I am embarrassed to say I can't remember his name. :spank: (I hate that I can't remember his name, because he was so genuinely warm and friendly.)

Shook his hand at a fundraiser during the summer of 2000 in Burgettstown, PA. My dad's neighbor got us some tickets from the postal workers' union for a $1000 a plate dinner.

Also many PA local, regional, and state politicians. My dad's best friend was the head of the Democratic Party for a large county in western PA.

20. I've met..
Senator Feingold at his Marinette County Listening session earlier this summer. I got his card from his aides after brining up issues regarding CIPA and the need for federal oversight of internet filtering companies to prevent biased filtering. I told him "If anyone deserves to have a 12" action figure made in their likeness, it's you Seantor Feingold".

I met and had a nice conversation with Governer Doyle at a party meeting in the Summer of 2002. He's a tall guy, and he's got huge hands.

I've met our State Senator Dave Hansen (who was elected because his opponent couldn't make up his mind on the Lambeau Field issue) a number of times. He's a really nice guy.

I'v also met our Assembly Speaker, John Gard (hock, SPIT!) a couple of times.

28. Took my grandmother to see Reagan
My G-mom lives in Fountain Valley, CA. Reagan spoke at Mile Square Park in that town one day, and G-mom wanted to go, so I took her. The park is less than a mile from her house, but couldn't walk without pain so we drove. We left three hours before RR was even to have arrived. We drove out of her tract, then sat in the car for about fifteen minutes without moving. I walked her slowly back to her house, and came back to my car. No one was mad I'd left it in traffic because no one had moved -- no engines were running.

But I've gotten closer to politicians than that -- I work at a large law firm in Washington, DC. The place is riddled w/ politicians, some of them actual former office holders.

I'll stick with the DC and not state/local or my list will get too long

Howard Dean - At a private fundraiser in Philly
Al Gore - At a fundraiser for a candidate in Delaware
Joe Biden - Various times and fundraisers/campaigns in Delaware
Tom Carper - See above
Ruth Ann Minner - See above (she's the governor here in Delaware)
Ed Rendell - A few times while volunteering for his campaign in PA

And a few republicans:
Mike Castle - Again while I was out volunteering for other campaigns in DE
Arlen Spector - He's been everywhere in PA and I've shaken his hands a few times while living here in PA
George Gekas - He's my old congressional rep from where I grew up. Major :puke: alert
Jim Greenwood - My old congressional rep when I lived outside of Philly

I've seen Rick Santorum but walked away before I was forced to shake his hand. No way I'll let that slime touch me!!!

Gov. Jim Doyle (WI), Former Gov. Howard Dean, Reps. Dennis Kucinich, Jerry Kleczka, Ron Kind, John Lewis, former Rep. Tom Barrett, Sens. Feingold and Kohl, a slew of local politicians including two who are going to jail (Gary George and Brian Burke).

I live with a congressional candidate; I shook the hand of one of his primary opponents, and the other one seemed to avoid me.

She's superb representing the 9th district. One of the most staunchest liberals in Congress. She was a very vocal opponent of the invasion of Iraq from the outset. Perfect on GLBT issues. Pro-consumer, pro-environmental.

Jan Schakowsky is one arguement against term limits. She can repreent our district for as long as she wants, IMO.

Or perhaps Andersonville. Rahm is a good guy, too.

Really though, it depends on where I end up after this election. Ultimately I have to move where there's a job. Hopefully that will be Chicago again. Springfield's okay, but my friends are all in the city and burbs.
