A U.S. woman (R) and supporter of the Israeli security barrier shouts at an
Israeli peace activist in Jerusalem on January 2, 2004. Palestinians in a West
Bank city now separated from Israel by a controversial barrier awoke Friday
to a rare sight -- streets empty of Israeli forces that pulled out after a long
encirclement. The army said removal of the 'closure' it imposed on Jenin in
August after a truce declared by Palestinian factions collapsed amid violence
was 'in keeping with assessments of the security situation.' (Reuters)

that's the most disturbing thing I've ever seen.

Not only does an american(jew?) go to Israel and shout at real Israelis, she has to wear the most tasteless abomination of our flag ever.

Oh.. I'm probably one of the most PC persons there are when it comes to ppl racking down on ppls looks, body mass etc.. but God she is one ugly fat cow

3. Scary expression and body language
The peace activist appears to be trying to reason with and implore her to listen with that fingertip hand gesture, but she is slashing down her fist and making a very aggressive face.

I've never seen a shirt like that before, either. What's she trying to say by wearing it on the West Bank?

7. well, this is culled from the pages of the Nat'l Review
but it should explain Evangelicals' peculiar interest in Israel's preservation.

http://www.nationalreview.com/dreher/dreher040502.asp

It begins with a novel theory of the End Times developed by an Englishman, John Nelson Darby, who taught in the 1830s and 1840s that Christians would be taken instantaneously out of the world in the "Rapture" before Christ returns. Darby's views became known as dispensationalism," because he divided God's dealing with mankind in history into three consecutive "dispensations." The first dispensation was the Mosaic Law, through which God offered salvation to the Jews through the observance of His commandments. This age closed with the coming of Christ, who instituted the age of Grace, in which God became preoccupied with Christians. The third and final stage will begin with the return of Jesus, who will establish a literal thousand-year reign upon the earth.

"Dispensationalists see a clear distinction between God's program for Israel and God's program for the church," reads a statement issued by the Dallas Theological Seminary, a leading center of dispensationalist learning. "God is not finished with Israel. The church didn't take Israel's place. They have been set aside temporarily, but in the end times will be brought back to the promised land, cleansed, and given a new heart."

This is not what Christians prior to Darby had believed. The traditional Christian reading of Scripture, dating from the early Church fathers, held that the Jews' rejection of the Messiah abrogated, or at least reduced the significance of, God's covenant with them. As the Rev. Gregory Mathewes-Green, an Antiochian Orthodox priest explains, "The Church's classical understanding is that she herself is the 'Israel of God,' the authentic continuation of the People of God, both ethnic Jews who accepted Jesus as Messiah and Gentile converts who, to use St. Paul's language, were 'grafted on.'"

10. She's not necessarily jewish...
... I've encountered non-jewish freepers who are quite passionate in their feelings about the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. Definitely pro-Israel.

This I fail to understand.

Is it because they equate Palestinians with "whining" liberals??
Is it because FOX news and other media totally slant I/P coverage??

Its because she doesnt have the decency to not look hideous.

If she had been fat.. no problem I wont judge someone for that.

If she only had had the us tshirt.. uhm it's ok if you dont act like an idiot.

Acting like an idiot while being overweight and having a us shirt = prepare to get severly plummeled

19. precisely
this — ahem — woman in the photo DESERVES to be the butt of a few harmless jokes, which she will not ultimately read, anyway. if she didn't appear to be such a barbarian and a DISGRACE, if you could actually perceive a flicker of civility in her whole mammoth frame, then silly remarks about her weight wouldn't be warranted

28. not ANY obese American
but when the person in question HAPPENS "to hail from a country in the throes of an obesity epidemic," to quote myself. the joke is centered around OBSERVABLE qualities, i.e., the woman's weight, demeanor, and offensive clothing. now if she were simply obese and at least appeared to be personable, that in itself would not be grounds for ridicule. in fact it would be downright malicious.

besides, it's not as though the woman in the photo is going to READ this thread. so what's it matter, anyhow?

27. I'm not trying to stir the pot here...
but the truth of the matter is, she IS an ugly fat woman, witha severe attitude problem. This picture is now on the net, all over the world. It is an affront to every American, and it will be seen around the world as what type of people we are.

As for her weight, that is her problem. As for her display of arrogance in a foreign nation, that becomes our problem.

I am not particularly pc, I call it like I see it. The truth is the truth, regardless of anything else.

BTW: I have nothing against overweight people, I am about 25#'s o/wt myself, but for crying out loud, facts are facts.

23. Well, I would say something nice about her if
I could think of anything nice to say about an American who goes over to the West Bank and shouts down an Israeli peace activist who appears to be trying to reason with her.

I didn't say anything about her weight, just her rude, obnoxious body language and strange choice of shirt.

Edited on Sun Jan-04-04 10:28 AM by rasputin1952
find us arrogant and repulsive?

For starters, this neo-con(?) is defacing OUR flag. I thought these people wanted to protect our flag, but this is what we get? I don't know how a lot of you feel about the flag, but I served under that banner, and I believe that it still represents a Free and Liberty Loving people.

Why the "Ugly American" scenario? Didn't anyone teach this woman that the best way to win people is with intelligent discourse?

Just why would this person feel she should set her self up to be a, (rather large), target? I can picture a car-bomber picking this out from about 3 miles away!

Oh well, no brains, no headaches!
