1. I ordered it yesterday
Edited on Sun Jan-04-04 12:24 PM by OhMyGod
I was thinking about posting excerpts and my impressions on DU. I'll suffer through it for the edification of my fellow DUers.

On Edit: Read all of the reader reviews. As of yesterday out of 18, all but 2 were on the money recognizing the neocon agenda as evil.

2. I would love to read this book
However, I don't feel that my blood pressure meds are adequate for this large a tub of BS.

:hi:

I can't help but think that anything by these two would be bad enough to make you :puke:

4. Found a bunch of reviews here

In this search I found out how Frum wormed his way into the hearts of the neocons. An earlier book by him is The Surprise Presidency of George W. Bush. Dripping with flattery no doubt.

A particular favorite among the reviews was written by "a retired USAF lieutenant colonel, who spent her final four and a half years in uniform working at the Pentagon." Here's an excerpt

The book jacket says Frum and Perle have provided a few simple steps to make neo-conservatives, or as my friend Ray McGovern calls them, neo-fascists, very, very happy. And what’s not to like about that?

To make a neo-fascist happy, we need only:

- Support the overthrow of the terrorist mullahs of Iran.
- End the terrorist regime of Syria.
- Regard Saudi Arabia and France not as friends but as rivals – maybe enemies.
- Withdraw support from the United Nations if it does not reform.
- Tighten immigration and security at home.
- Radically reorganize the CIA and the FBI.
- Squeeze China, and blockade North Korea to press that member of the axis of evil to abandon its nuclear program.
- Abandon the illusion that a Palestinian state will contribute in any important way to U.S. security.

These little Perles of inanity, these fluffy Frumpisms deserve a closer look. They tell us an enormous amount about misguided American empire and the neo-fascist state we are growing for ourselves like a new Audrey in our little shop of horrors. Feed me, Seymour!

I don't know about the book, but we could have a lot of fun reading the reviews.:-)

6. Is Frum the former * speech writer who was canned after his wife
claimed credit for him for a term used in the SOTU address?

7. Same 'Axis of evil' guy...
Only the canned part is questionable. Yeah, right.

8. It was "axis of hatred" according to Frum
His boss, Michael Gerson, changed it to axis of evil.

Story here and thanks for the reminder!

I seriously doubt that he was canned. The WH was just a pit stop along the way to writing more books. He probably already had a contract signed.

His version: . . .he insists his departure had nothing to do with his wife's email. He just got fed up with writing for someone else. "As thrilling as it was, speechwriting is ultimately frustrating for someone who wants to be a writer," he says.

He insists his White House colleagues were amused or sympathetic throughout the two-week scandal, but the truth is that this White House does not appreciate the hired hands stealing the president's thunder

If he was out of favor, I still think it was only temporary. For a certainty, it lasted only until he published his new book about Bush the hero of 9/11.

Thanks for the clarification. Good catch.

5. Revealing title: "The End of Evil"
What kind of overweening ego must you have to title a book about your neocon beliefs "The End of Evil?" How smug and pompous can you possibly get? These guys ARE evil. People - including those on this site - do not take them seriously enough. While the Clark/Dean/others spitting match goes on here, take-no-prisoner guys like Perle and Frum are planning the world in which we are to live, and believe me, it has no room in it for those who disagree with their prescription for "the end of evil" - only the end of opposition to their raw consolidation of power. Probably will have to read this, if I can stomach it. Nightmarish stuff.
