The refrigerator chronicles. |
|
So...the fridge/freezer (GE, side-by-side) was officially declared a disaster area around Thanksgiving. Miz t. sez "After the holidays...". And here we are.
Somehow a glacier has formed beneath the bottom bin in the freezer. I think it's kind of nice, having our very own glacier and all. Kind of wild and outdoorsy and natural beauty-like. Miz t. sez that's the ONLY place for glaciers...out in nature...not in her fridge. A spatula and an ice pick soon dislodge the glacier. Plugged drain hole in the back for the auto-defrost. Hair dryer should thaw it out and a pipe cleaner to ream out whatever gunk is in there.
We've had the fridge for 2 years and the manual says the water filter should be changed every 6 months. We still have the filter that came in the fridge. Good time to tackle that with all the food out. Manual says "Turn the filter to the left and remove it. DO NOT PULL DOWN ON THE FILTER". I turn is as far left as it will go and...nothing. It won't come out. Maybe if I just pull it a little bit? Still nothing. Maybe if I get a screwdriver and pry it? No. Do not pull down on the filter.
I call the support hotline. Go through several choices on the phone matrix. Finally get through to a human bean. "There's a vacuum there. Turn on the water dispenser." It seems to me that turning on the dispenser, downstream of the filter, would create MORE vacuum, but no. The filter pops right out. Gee, that would be a good thing to list in the Water Filter Installation section of the owner's manual, ya think?
Oh, the turkey leg from Thanksgiving that we thought someone took home? Found it! Right behind the mayo and the pickled peaches. I'm sending it off to Pfizer Pharmaceuticals because I think we MUST have a cure for SOMETHING here. ;-)

1. Too funny!!! The kids in this house wait till a spill starts to move... |

on it's own before they clean it up.
I think everyone that has ever owned a refrigerator must have had an experience similar to your encounter with the turkey leg. I went out and bought all those Rubbermaid containers (you know the ones. The ones taking up ALL the space in their cabinet? the ones designed so they wont nest into each other? They just stack up and stick together) with the nice, tight fitting lids so that i can store stuff for 2 weeks and THEN throw it out. Funny how that works, isnt it?

Literally LOL. Know JUST what you mean about the Rubbermaid/Tupperware stuff. And I can never find the right lid.
Sometimes I'll pull something out of the fridge and ask "Can we toss this now? Or does it have to stay for another week?"

3. How nice a glacier in the fridge would be! |
|
Each morning I open the fridge, towel in hand, to soak up the lake that has formed in the bottom of that infernal machine. If we leave for the weekend, it will begin to spill out, massive waves of chill water running across the floor of the back porch, soaking the stacks of newspaper and various paper sacks stored there. Yet she still keeps beer cold and freezes ice, so we refuse to put her down. As long as she's happy, and we can keep her quality of life tolerable, I can't bring myself to say goodbye. (The old girls 7, which is 84 in refrigerator years).

4. WOW! 84 in refirgerator years. |
|
That means our old one was 276. See if there's not a drain down there somewhere. Might solve your water problem.

crisper. I didn't remember ever buying limes, and couldn't figure it out until I realized it used to be a head of lettuce!
