Need links for rights of GLBT people
On another forum, a person said he thought that the state laws for allowing partners into hospitals, rights to have custody for children, etc, were pretty much the same in all state. I am trying to find a link to show him that state laws vary, and that it is sometimes difficult for GLBT people to have the same rights that married people have. We're in a debate about civil unions/gay marriage, and any links to information you can give can help. We have a chance to educate some people. Thanks in advance.

1. May I suggest the Lambda Legal Defense Fund's website?
The Lambda Legal Defense Fund is a terrific organization fighting for legal rights for GLBT people. Lambda was, in fact, very influential in the Lawrence vs Texas victory this past summer which struck down sodomy laws in this country.

I think they will have what you need.

Their web site:

3. You're very welcome!
I volunteered for awhile for Lambda Legal. I'm glad to promote them anyway I can!

5. No link, but please read!
All couples need a lviving will and medical POA. Otherwise, guess who makes the decisions if you can't? Yourparents, siblings, or someone else - NOT your partner. Give yourself and your partner some comfort by completing these documents.

Three friends have died without benefit of either. In all three cases, the parents (a sister in one case) stepped in and took control of the medical care. In all three cases the partners were shut out (one was even barred from the funeral).

Let the one who knows you best make the decisions - not someone with whom you have not lived for years.

Pleae do this!
