No wonder my cat's so skinny. He's bulemic! |
|
If I step in cold cat puke one more time, I'm gonna scream. Anyone else have a cat who pukes almost daily?

He would throw up unchewed pieces of his dry food. We began grinding the food for him and he hasn't barfed since.

try spreading the food out on a cookie sheet so it can't be "inhaled". Also, Science Diet Oral Care has much larger pieces which forces the cat to actually chew. I'd still be using it, but Gracie developed an ear infection so we think she's allergic to something in it. :(
There are several conditions that can cause constant gacking. Check with your vet.

3. What are you feeding it? |
|
Cheap corn-based cat food makes mine do that - I have to feed her at least premium food. Home cooked is even better, get and read this book:
Dr. Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats.
Changed my views on pet food completely. Most allergies are FOOD all ergies. Try this guy's basic diet for a month and see what happens. You will be amazed. No more skin, eye, ear problems.
Here is the basic Cat recipe, but GET THE BOOK and READ IT. (lots more recipes)
2 cups water 1/2 cup of GRAIN (polenta, rice, oat, or mixed human cereal) 1 TBS oil or butter 1 egg 1 lb of fresh meat (2 cups ground turkey, lamb, chicken, beef) 2 TBS Health Powder* scant tsp egg shell (dried, baked at 300 degrees for 10 minutes and ground) 5,000 IU vitamin A (cod liver oil - don't get it on you it stinks) (tsp of grated fresh veg - carrot, spinach whatever)
Boil water, cook cereal - while still hot stir in egg and meat so it gets heated but not cooked to death add rest except fresh veg. This will keep in fridge for a few days - and is about 3 or 4 servings. Add the fresh veg when feeding. May take a few days for cat to eat it. The book explains about animal fasting. This does NOT hurt the pet. Predators in the wild often go days without eating. again read this book you may even change your own diet!
*Healthy Powder
2 cups nutritional (torula) yeast 1 cup lecithin granules 1/4 cup kelp powder 1/4 cup bonemeal (or 9,000 mg calcium, or 5 teaspoons ground eggshell) 1,000 mgs vit c (grind up a regular vitamin or two)

I have a cat like that.
He's not skinny, though. He's tall and long and probably weighs 20 lbs. And I've planted a bare foot in cat puke more often than I care to think about.
He eats really fast, and sometimes can't handle it all. Or... he's just eaten a half-rotten mole corpse which comes back up on him. But I love him anyway.

5. Try spreading the food out |
|
it's really helped my cats stop gacking so much. And my bare feet and carpets are thankful. ;)

thanks. He eats out of a bowl and just scarfs it. When he bjorks it back up, it's still solid, unchewed food.

10. Or try Science Diet Oral Care |
|
The pieces are as large as dog food and it can't be scarfed, it must be chewed. My cats would still be on it if Gracie wasn't allergic to some ingredient in it.
Good luck!

7. One of my guys is a constant barfer. |
|
He's also a very picky eater and won't touch any dry food. He's on a prescription diet because of skin allergies. The vet decided that he was allergic to chicken. Since he started on the prescription food, the barfing has let up alot. Instead of daily..he maybe barfs weekly. Hi sister barfs alot too... My other two never do.

8. bulemia is a not just a physical disorder |
|
it's psychological
I'm sure it's hairballs that are causing the problem.

11. Have you tried any hairball remedy? |
|
His guts are probably all tied up with fur, poor kitty!
Most kitties deal with this problem sooner or later. He just needs a little "meat flavored alka seltzer."
My poor old cat Oreo used to puke constantly. Try some Laxatone. Might help a little bit.

12. I read that cats' stomachs are the size of a quarter. |
|
You see how much they eat. When ours throw up, we have a great little vacuum, a terrier, who comes running over to take care of the problem.
I know it's gross, but at least I don't have to pick it up.

14. The beagle does that too. I try to stop her, but, well, trying to keep a beagle from eating |
|
Edited on Mon Feb-05-07 08:09 PM by mycritters2
is like trying to keep the sun from coming up. One of my cats, the one who has this unnatural fondness for the beagle, actually goes and finds her. He either throws up right in front of her, or goes and gets her after he throws up. It's six steps beyond disgusting!
