was in the hospital from Dec 16 until the 26 for emergency surgery (she's doing great). Before she went home, a social worker was sent in to make sure she'd be okay going home alone. Apparently they do this with most their elderly patients.
The social worker asked Mom who the president was. As a rule, Mother only refers to Bush as "that asshole" (see my posts from a couple months ago on how Bush has caused her to start using profanity). I could tell she was trying to figure out what to say because she just couldn't bring herself to use her favorite expression in front of the social worker, but she didn't want to call Bush the president either. Finally she said "Well, Gore was elected, but Bush is living in the White House."
The social worker said, "Your doctor said you're awfully sharp and didn't think this interview was necessary, I can see she was right."

back in November I had endoscopic sinus surgery - when I woke up it went like this with the recovery nurse:
How many fingers am I holding up? Three
What day of the week is it? Wednesday
Who is the president? Al Gore but that thieving fuckwit Bush is in the White House.
OK, SHE'S FINE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

7. But mom would agree with you |
|
She's nearly 80 and, until Bush was in the White House, never swore except to say "damn" (and a very rare "shit" when truly provoked). She's starting to sound like a sailor whenever he shows up on TV. I showed her a copy of a faux Time Magazine cover I have with picture of Bush and the headline "We are fucked". Her comment was "I don't exactly like that word, but I agree with the sentiment." (Once upon a time I wouldn't have shown her that because of how she would have reacted to the mother of all swear words.)
Thank you all for your kind wishes. She always asks me what the "internet Democrats" have to say.

She refers to * as "that idiot in the White House". She called Ronald Reagan the same thing.

Carving the turkey on the holidays.
Daddy/Daughter day at the Ball Park.
Let's not skimp around Father's Day (which is right around my birthday so there'll be none of that two events one gift rip-offs).

Thinks like my mother would have, were she still alive. When going through my mother's belongings after her death in 1991, I found a newspaper with the headline "NIXON RESIGNS" which she had kept with her most cherished possessions.
This 'internet Democrat' wishes your mother a happy and healthy new year!

Please give her my hopes for a speedy recovery. Her recovery to that question was a treasure indeed.

My 78-year-old mom calls him "the asshole" too! Today she said, "I had to keep switching channels today because the asshole was on and I couldn't stand watching him." For one second I thought, "Who?. . . Oh, of course-- Bush!"
