Is it better to appeal a moderator warning....
...or click "I understand the rules". Anybody have any insight? There are some cases where I know I crossed the line, and that's fine. But there are others where it's borderline and I'm not sure if I should appeal or surrender. Few Q's:

1) How does a post get spotted for review? I assume the Alerts have something to do with it.

2) When you click "I understand the rules", do those add up somewhere on your "permanent record"? If so, what are the ramifications.

3) Anyone have any success with appeals or is it a lost cause/black hole?

Thanks!

if you want to appeal and if you want to keep posting, since you can't post again until you've agreed to follow the rules, even if an appeal is in process.

I appealed a warning and it was answered and we discussed it, and it was repealed. Now, that was because I was nailed for a post that had been posted before the particular rule took effect, but I'm just telling you this to let you know that at least my appeal didn't disappear into a black hole.

I'm not a mod, but I would guess that some of the warnings are the result of alerts, but some also must be from the mods doing their own reading. It's obvious, when some threads start heating up, that some people might get carried away and start to talk out of their butts instead of their mouths.

If you think you're in the right, appeal.

If you know you're wrong, take it like a man.

:spank:

edited for some bit of clarity, which I still don't think I found, so I guess I'm going to bed.

3. This is in the wrong forum
It should be in the "Ask the Administrators" Forum. I have been graciously granted an appeal in the past.

6. I think he is asking for advice not questioning the rules

My answer to the poster is as follows since I don't know what your post said.

IF it was a CLEAR rule violation, take your lashes with a wet noodle.

If it is borderline and perhaps could have been misinterpreted ...then DO defend your post with your reasoning why it should stand and WHY it DOES NOT disrupt the board nor cross the line of blatantly breaking the rule.

I don't think taking people to task is a personal attack unless you take them to task by calling them names.

4. I have an appeal right now...
I clicked I understand the rules, then I clicked on appeal. I then gave my reason for the appeal. I just wonder how long the appeal takes.

7. Thanks for the feedback and regrets...
...for the times that I go overboard! The key is reminding ourselves that 99.9% of the people here mean well.

9. I called someone a
"Troll" and got a warning, I appealed and lost.

You may call someone an asshole but not a troll...go figure

I was truly unaware of this, and I am not upset about it.
I am a big believer in standing up and apologizing when I make a mistake.

So MEA CULPA, MEA CULPA. (as I lash my back with a knotted cord)

You can't call someone an asshole, either.

15. Oakaly -Doakaly.
I won't do that either.

And thanks for the heads up on the troll thingy, I really thought it was O.K.

Apology's all round, never happen again.

10. Why bother?
It's based on favoritism, anyway.

13. It's not based on favoritism at all.
I know it feels good to believe that the responsibility is not your own, rather than admit that you have control over your own destiny. But this post is simply not true.

If you read the rules, and if you truely believe that your post violated none of them, you should appeal. (And word to the wise: Be polite when you appeal, or else I won't waste my time with you.)

14. This is bad advice.
If you read the rules, and you genuinely don't believe you broke any of them, then you should appeal.

But again, I repeat, don't be rude or I'll deny your appeal. And don't appeal something that any fool can tell is a rule violation.

17. Appeal, if you think you're correct.
I've appealed before and found Skinner to be very reasonable, especially if the violation is 'borderline'. One tip, though--- be POLITE. :)
