Poll question: THEORETICAL: Which is worse?
Just curious, don't think anything into it...

The kicker is I'd like to hear why you believe in the option you chose.

Thanks!

2. Seconded
I have no knowledge of my "self" ever existing before, and have no idea if "I" will ever be on this earth again. Therefore, I must do the best I can to bug, bother, and irritate as many people as possible before I get struck down. It's a duty we must not shirk!

3. Hmmm
So being poor, no prospects, no relatives, no job, no hope for job, in ill health, malnourished is better than being dead?

We put ailing/abandoned/useless/whatever pets to death, saying it's "humane". Why the double-standards for humans? Is it a novel way for God to punish us?

5. We put pets down
when there is no hope for them that we know of and they are in pain.
Even with a so called terminal disease there is hope.
All of the other situations can change for the better too.

8. because humans, my friend
are better than pets. We are smarter and craftier and are better at cooking. That is why we have a double standard.

14. I have to say...
...I like trof's answer better.

Although the part about being better at cooking is funny.

4. suicide
it is the only thing that is final. Terminal illness would be the second worse.

7. Right
We like to think that we will be looking down on people's reactions afterwards, but, guess what? Even if we were, it wouldn't matter. We are no longer around. Our energy has dissipated and is in the process of forming something else.

Life is having obstacles to overcome. Unless we are one of the ruling elite, I would guess we all here have negatives to overcome. The struggle is the important part. Stop struggling, and the bastards have won.

11. So is moving to a different country if Bush wins in 2004 the same thing
as suicide?

Just giving up?

Lots of people, namely Dems whose votes do matter, are openly contemplating this. Heh, can Canada support us all?

I'm not accusing you, but I've seen others do the "I'm going to throw the towel if he wins".

12. I ain't leavin'
and Canada will now throw all the "deserters" back to the US government based on recently signed legislation.

Those who want to change their residence are probably making a good decision, but they should not expect to ever come back.

Remember, it took awhile for the Nazis to consolidate their power and overtake the populace's misgivings. It's a modern miracle of the electronic age that things are moving along at the pace they are.

9. Terminal illness
my mother died from a terminal illness, it was just awful seeing her waste away little by little too sick to do anything at all. I think I would rather commit suicide than die from terminal illness.

Suicide is a tragedy, but I would rather have a loved one, afflicted with a terminal illness, be able to make that decision for themselves than not.

15. I'm sorry.
I'm sure it comes to a point where the best thing that can be done for a person is help them die.

I'm sorry you had to say goodbye to your mom in such a painful way.

13. suicide.
Edited on Thu Jan-08-04 09:00 PM by rbnyc
When my boyfriend killed himself, he also murdered my boyfriend. When my aunt killed herself, she also murdered my dad's sister, my cousin's mom, my grandma's daughter, and my aunt.

I love my husband and I would never kill his wife. I love my mom and dad, and I'd never murder their daughter.

If I went bankrupt, I could rebuild my savings. If I lost my home, I could find another one. If I were terminally ill, I could make the best of the time I have left. If I were to kill myself, I would die a murderer and leave all my loved ones in pain.

EDIT: typo

16. Amen to that.
One of my brothers spent his entire life bemoaning our mother's death; how awful it was to grow up without parents. He then proceeded to commit suicide, leaving his own children to grow up without THEIR father. I'm STILL angry at him for doing that.

I'd rather be dead, homeless, bankrupt or have cancer.

18. Suicide doesn't fit on the list
The other choices are conditions of existence. Suicide isn't one. I would think it more appropriate to give "dead" as a choice than "suicide." Isn't that really the option anyway?
Given that, "suicide" (or "dead") is the worse option because you are essentially dead with that option and with the other options you're not.
