What was the first LOCKED thread you ever created on DU?
Mine was titled "You know what sucks hot wet shit?", and despite its raunchy title it was really just about the Discovery Channel's poor choice of programming at the time.

Ah... memories.

But that was in my young and feckless youth, back in 2006

5. I don't remember the title; but I'm pretty sure it had a pic
of a kidney or somesuch...

I didn't think it would bother anyone...
I received a warning asking me to edit the post; but I didn't see it until it was too late.
I hope I didn't nauseate too many folks...

I was pretty vicious. It deserved to be locked.

7. I never had a thread locked, but I had one *vanished* away!
I was merely demonstrating that using CSS you could make a 'defaced' page of DU with spyware-style links (no actual spyware links, but one did go to the whitehouse) that reach out from your post to replace elements on the screen.

Oddly, the admins chose to vanish that thread!
I never did it again though!

I posted something incredibly nasty about somebody who wasn't a DUer, and poof! the thread vanished. As was proper.

12. But damn, it was cool looking.
Looked like some hacker had struck. I was proud that the home link was the white house and the My Du link was the FBI logo!
The My Du link still said My DU and went to My Du. I didn't want to get tombstoned or anything!

13. "Call the Waaaaaambulance. Women don't like nice guys."
I didn't expect it to get any responses. It was kinda making fun of a whiney guy on DU who always complained that women don't like nice guys.

It got over 300 responses before it was locked (rightly so) for the flame war that erupted in it.

15. The guy that that was aimed at...
I think he was eventually banned...anyway, I tried to tell him that posting Van Halen lyrics did not make him a chick magnet. I think he thought that his extensive knowledge of Van Halen lyrics--that women found it irresistable. It kinda repulsed me. Then he'd whine about how girls don't go for nice guys.

That was a crazy time at DU. :D

It was locked for being deliberate flamebait, and was in reaction to the 'douchebag' controversy.

20. I think that "douche bag" thread was the catalyst...
... that led to the dismantling of the ban feature. So many people got threads locked and posts deleted because of that one thread it started a movement.

Those were some crazy days.

22. I said after the 2004 election that no matter how we felt about
George W., we had to admit that he was our president...

There were about 200 responses spread out over a few days when they finally locked it...

All through the 90's, I kept hearing conservatives ask me "So what do you think of your president now?" whenever another "scandal" surrounding Clinton would erupt...

I always answered "The last time I looked, he was the president of the whole United States..."

They would reply, "well, he's not my president" and it really bothered me...

I thought it bordered on treason to say that...

So I stated it once and only once, until now, that George W. was the president...

I didn't wish to sound like a progressive version of a freeper...

...if he dropped out.

The only two choices I allowed them was Pat Buchanan and Ted Kaczinsky, both of whom share some attribute with Ralph Nader.

30. I don't know about "created", but I did second someone's observation that Bush ...
Edited on Sun Mar-11-07 01:14 AM by Lisa
... was probably getting way too, ahem, "excited" about Saddam's execution. The thread was locked right after, so it's possible that my comment (not especially graphic but definitely not in polite taste) helped push it over the top.

Oh -- and a couple of days ago, somebody replied to my suggestion on the Viggo Mortensen eco-house thread, that the story sounded very much like what had been reported for Bush's Crawford place. Exact wording and everything, right down to the architect's name and the square footage of the house -- and I even posted the link to the original article. I was unable to read the actual response because the thread had been erased, so it's purely speculation on my part that either the mods figured the original (low-count) poster for a troll who was going to slam us all as hypocrites for giving Viggo credit which we would have withheld from Dubya ... or the OP had called me out for sensing the trap.
