Any other DUers out there familiar with pickaprof.com?
I am curious. I had never reviewed the site until yesterday and was quite amazed at the content. They have records on every one of my colleagues (and my records as well). The rating system is intriguing, and the student commentaries are revealing. I am just curious if anyone else here has observed the same trends as I. I perceive that students today, largely due to their misunderstanding of the meaning of education, gravitate toward those instructors who assign little work, do not require class attendance, and give A's like candy. There were none such when I was an undergrad. Anyone have similar perceptions?

1. interesting
it's not really a popularity contest though. I always appreciated the professors who made me work my ass off (when it was in a good direction)

3. It appears to have turned into a popularity contest...
not that I care. I don't. If they don't want to write a research paper, then it is their prerogative to find someone else to teach their course. Many of my colleagues get high ratings becuase they never lecture on anything, but read from the text the entire time, with the minimum nuber of exams and a few optional quizzes thrown in for extra credit. It is laughable. I,too appreciated professors who made me work, even if I disliked it intensely at the time. I learned from them, much more so than from those who took a cavalier approach to teaching.

2. At UCLA, there is something called
Bruinwalk.com and undergrads sometimes go there to insult hard professors and those whose English is not so good. Thankfully, as a TA, that crap doesn't get written about me.

4. Your time is coming...
On the website I opened with, the TAs very often get rated as well, even though they are, by and large, innocent bystanders. Don't be surprised, especially if you do any grading, when your name pops up on the site.
