Hey, I've got a webpage now!!! ...But have some questions
The Maine Legislature has done this for all their members (I think). I viewed mine for the first time about a minute ago because I just found an e-mail alerting me to it. I know next to nothing about this sort of thing.... can I update it and/or interact w/anyone who might want to? I'd like to be able to let my constituents know what I'm doing in Augusta. Is there such a thing as a webpage that you can't do anything with? In other words, is that it? Can I use it to add "stuff" to? I feel like a dummy asking these questions but puters and their workings (beyond the basics) are still somewhat foreign to me. :dunce:

2. Hi, Mary! I'm curious about what happens
You're up awfully late. (Then again, so am I.)

I'm curious about what happens when a constituent uses the contact form. Does it go to your mailbox or to an aide who screens it or to a central box for the Maine Legislature Website where it is vaporized and never seen nor heard from again?

I don't know how this'll work. But certainly hope this will be a way I can keep my folks updated. I CAN tell you with certainty that if the contact form actually works it won't go to my aide. I "share" her w/about 10 other Reps so she is overloaded as it is. I assume it'll just go to me.

BTW I am up this late since it's so darn cold I have to keep the woodstove going in order to keep the pipes from freezing. I have no other form of heat so I'm up about every 4 hours. :-(

6. What a pain in the posterior!
I still wish I had a wood stove. I'm freeeezing! I live in an apartment building with central heating, and they figure every tenant is in bed covered with nice toasty blankets so there's no heat right now.

I should go cover myself and go to sleep.

I'd like to find out how that constituent contact feature works, so I have a better idea of why using them is not the optimal way to get in touch with a representative. It's probably much more effective in Maine than it is in DC.

G'night!

3. I would find out...
who the webmaster is(the person who does the actual website stuff)and ask them...

If you want to interact with people...I would just start a blog...that's the easiest way right now to let people know what you are up to and they can respond to your updates as well...!

That's what I would do...

4. I see the webpage was designed with Dreamweaver.
That's a step up from Microsoft FrontPage!

If you aren't able to modify this page, you should get your own website. You could probably hire someone to make a simple site for $200-$500, maybe even cheaper. You could then get it hosted for $15 a month or less.

I think all elected officials should have their own websites - with lots of information to educate the public. It shows that they care, and it's a good learning experience.

7. As opposed to what?
Aren't most professionally designed pages done with Dreamweaver? How can you tell anyway?
