Confession: I don't like Guinness beer. |
|
And I'm part Irish. It's too much for me. I really wish I did. Is it an acquired taste? Can I teach myself to like it?
ps...Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I'm not a huge Guinness fan, but I have to drink it this time of year or they'll kick me out of the family. Just order a Smithwick instead. It's an Irish Ale and pretty damn good to boot.

Recently, however, I discovered that people actually enjoy drinking it, which I find just bizarre.

I'd much rather have Mackeson's Stout. (sp) And I had a great-tasting stout from a micro-brewery just yesterday. Guinness is very much an acquired taste and I've never acquired it.

one way to lighten it up is to order a black and tan - you will get a half Guinness half Harp (in two layers)
Or just order the Harp. Its a decent lager and not so burnt tasting.

10. Guinness goes down like water |
|
It's actually a light beer, its just a little bitter so its an acquired taste. Stop drinking light American beer, and you should start acquiring a taste for more flavorful beers
Guinness isn't the only Irish beer though. Look in the import and microbrew section and try a cream stout, which which is like a guinness but sweet instead of bitter.

Yummmm.... I like stouts and porters in general, and while Guinness isn't really my favorite-- there are just too many good local brews up here in Norcal-- I certainly do like it. And at least on one tries to dye it green!

I'm just sayin'. I love Porters and Ales but not stouts. My current favorite is Des Chutes Brewery's Black Butte Porter. Yum!

Not much, anyway...once in a while when it's really hot and the beer is really cold, one is OK. It's just not my favorite taste. If I'm going to drink, I'd rather drink something that I think is really YUMMY. So wine, or a White Russian or a Mudslide or a Bailey's would get my vote every time.
oops! edited for typo

23. I see the problem--it isn't beer. |
|
It's stout. You're obviously thinking about it all wrong, so your expectations are out of whack. It's thick, dark and strong--it's STOUT. Sounds good, right? Another thing--most American bars pour a crappy pint of Guinness. A good pour depends on a lot of things--clean lines, proper temperature, the exact right amount of CO2, and a degree of patience on the part of the bartender (a properly poured Guinness actually requires TWO pours; the intial pour, which is then skimmed off and allowed to cascade, and then a top-off pour a couple of minutes later). Bad Guinness does taste bad, but good Guinness tastes GOOD.

Because, well...I don't like it either. Have lots of friends that do, though. I get an out on SPD when it comes to the Guiness.
