I'm thinking Larry Graham in "Thank You for Talkin' to Me Africa" or maybe Steve Hanley in "I Feel Voxish".
edit: And if you post some picture depicting a row of fish, a pox be on you for all time.

5. Geddy Lee in Fly By Night |

That's more of a very, very deep lead line, but it's great

2. I've always loved Maurice Satterfield's bass playing on... |
|
..."Rescue Me" by Fontella Bass.
And let us not forget the greatest bass player of all: the late, great James Jamerson of Motown's kick-ass session band, the Funk Brothers!

4. Satterfield's is a great bassline |
|
Jamerson particularly for "I heard It Through The Grapevine" and (I assume) "Papa Was A Rolling Stone"

Funny that the first one I thought of was also (presumably) Larry Graham!

Saw Victor Wooten not too long ago. He's amazing. Playing with his family- brothers are very talented too- a guitarist (Reggie?) and pianist.
Best bassline- the one that jumps to mind right now is the Talking Heads "Swamp."

I can't just say McCartney, because I do like Harrison's bass line in "Back in the U.S.S.R."

12. Smithereens' Blood and Roses |
|
No, it's not the most technically interesting. But dang, get that in yer head and you've got an evening planned. :)
Off topic, I would also suggest that the Smithereens get the prize for World's Ugliest Band, collectively. Some bands have one or two members that are as ugly as the Smithereens, but on balance, looking at the entire band... eech. :D
