Hey, remember the woman who left her 2-year-old in the car while she went shopping?
Well, she might do jail time! From last Friday:

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- A woman accused of leaving her 2-year-old son in the car while she went shopping at an upscale Scottsdale mall could face six months in jail if convicted, according to authorities.

Gardenia Zakrzewski-Johansson, 39, made her first court appearance in the case Thursday as lawyers for both sides discussed her options during a pretrial conference. Zakrzewski-Johansson is charged with two counts of child endangerment. Her next date in Scottsdale City Court is scheduled for April 20.

She is accused of leaving her young child sleeping inside her unlocked luxury car after she asked a valet to watch him while she shopped with her dog inside the Neiman Marcus store at Scottsdale Fashion Square.

After the December incident made national headlines, employees at a north Scottsdale jewelry store told police she also asked store employees there to watch her son while she went to a nearby Starbucks. That incident was a week prior to her arrest at Fashion Square.

2. She MUST do jail time!
There's controversy here in Maryland about child laws. A woman left her five children in abject squalor in a basement apartment while she worked. Her dog was also there, chained & in his own filth.

She could get more jail time for mistreating the dog -- 90 days for 2 offenses -- than for leaving her children alone -- 30 days per child.

!!!!

Yes, the legislature is working on it.

3. I can't imagine.
I remember almost panicking when I parked my car, locked it, and put a letter in a mailbox which was about six feet away from my parked car with my young children inside. I was away from the car for, oh, maybe four seconds, and I still felt that parental tightening of my insides. Paranoia, I know, but still ... That overwhelming protective feeling you have for your vulnerable young children is so strong with most parents, I'm amazed when people don't have it.
