Welfare state in Utopia
I don't know the appropriate forum for this. "Productivity" is putting people out of work. What if productivity were so high that there would be little or no work for anyone? Suppose fusion was a reality and energy was free. Think "Forbidden Planet". Now flash back to the present, where we have an attitude of no free fide. Everyone must WORK. But there is little work, and the goal seems to be to have as few workers as possible If you already HAVE money, you can play golf and go on cruises, or be President or something. What are you supposed to do otherwise, have yourself sterilized or something?

1. if nobody works,

the number of lower income earners will swell in size and then there will be an even larger gap between rich and poor. That will just open a whole other category of problems that would affect society.

I guess the only option would be to either go on welfare or find your own way out.

2. That's the whole idea behind communism.

Well, one of the main ideas. Technology eliminates scarcity, and with it socio-economic classes.

3. Easy. They want us all to join the military so that we may age eternal war
Edited on Sun Jan-11-04 12:10 PM by RandomKoolzip
Destroy the service industry class by keeping wages so low they have no choice BUT to either go on welfare (why work two jobs if you STILL don't make enough to pay rent?)or join the military....the huge influx of new soldiers means that we can never stop warring...Yippee! Meanwhile the "producer" class gets to lunch on Chilean sea bass on their yachts, forcing out more and more products on into the market that no one can afford unless they are OF the producer class.........
