Need your input, new lens filter for my camera...

Is the galaxy diffraction filter a bit over the top, or is this actually a worthwhile filter? Should I go back and re-take the picture without the filter attached?

1. Photo opinion
The filter effect distracts from the beautiful colors of the sunset and the reflection in the river. If you can retake the photo with the same sunset, then do it. The filter is best used when you have points of light, but little color, such as a street scene.

3. I prefer to shoot with no filter . . .
Anything you want to add can be done within Photoshop or other editing software.

My opinion has always been that you can obtain the best picture clarity with the lens alone.

:)

5. Well, a polarizing filter can help reduce color wash-out and
neutral density filters are great for doing those trite pics of shooting waterfalls and rivers, trying to make the water 'fluid' by keeping the lens open longer... well, for rivers it's not always a bad effect, but it's been done so many times by so many photographers that I miss the stop-motion appearance...

I prefer a quicker lens response, trying to get a total stop capture (like the trite hummingbird pics everybody, myself included, loves to take!)

7. I agree with you
here in the SW neutral density filters can be a big help when you have loaded high speed film.
The polarizing helps stops the sky from being washed out. A good polarizing filter costs a bit but after the UV, it is one I would recommend.

10. Oh, I agree polarizers and neutral filters have their uses. . .
But in the photo in question, I don't think any filter was necessary.

4. in this circumstance, I think it's over the top
but if you already own it, I'm sure you can find good uses for it.

8. lose the filter
it looks like a "trick" and detracts from the photo.

Is that somewhere near Welland, Ontario, Canada?
