Down to one job
As many long-term DUers know, I have been a computer operator at a printing company full-time and a lumber & building materials sales associate at Home Depot part-time.

Due to the downturn in the printing business, I am now a full-time Home Depot employee and am no longer in the printing business at all. (When I went in to ask the Home Depot store manager to put me on full time, he first asked me if I was through at my other job, then asked if I was okay, then when he got positive answers to both questions cracked a big ol' shit eating grin. He's wanted me full time forever, and now he has it.)

Unlike many people who get laid off, I'm going to be economically all right. And since I had grown to despise the printing business, I'm going to be mentally all right--I really like selling lumber, and my store manager wants me to move into a Department Head slot as soon as the next Department Supervisor's Training class opens up.

You know that old saying "sometimes things are for the best?" I think this one really will be.

1. Great result - while in a lousy economy - congrats!
It is nice to hear of a good outcome one in a while!

:-)

2. It's not completely good yet
We still need to pick up the extra income we lost from the other job. I think we will, even if Lori needs to find a job in retail. Target's hiring and that would be especially nice if she got on there; Target and Home Depot are next door to one another. Food Lion across the street from Home Depot is hiring. The Petsmart is hiring. (Yes, I am naming all retail. That's what we have.) She could go to work at the telemarketing firm and annoy people; they're still hiring even with Do Not Call.

It's not completely good yet, but it will be.
