Where does Maury Povich come up with these themes for his show?

Quite frankly I'm at a loss to understand WHY it is that these shows are STILL on the air and why they are apparently so popular. I honestly don't get it.

And where do they find these people who qualify for their hair-brained themes? Do you think the "guests" are faking their stories just for a free trip to New York or Chicago? I do.

1. I know a guy who DID that.

His girlfriend's mother would always hit on him...one night he was drunk, and one thing lead to another...He never went on TV to talk about it, but it does happen.

I know a married couple who was on Maury 5 or 6 years ago. The entire show was fake and a script. Is every show this way? Probably not. But the fact that some of them are makes me not believe anything I see on them.

6. Maury used to be on when I got home from work.

So if I turned on the TV and flipped around, I'd pause long enough to see what the topic was. He did the same couple of shows over and over:

"My baby weighs 350 pounds and I'll feed him cookies if I want to!"
"I'm 100% positive you're the father of my baby!"
"Shocking secrets revealed!"
"Help! My teen dresses too sexy!"

I have no idea how they found so many obese babies to put on the show, but they always seemed to have a fresh bunch.

7. I do like those Maury Povich episodes...

where women dress up like men and the audience has to guess the real gender...or vice versa, where a man dresses up like a woman. Very entertaining. I, however, don't dare guess or make comments until the gender is revealed. :)

You'll see the same people over and over, especially on multiple shows.

I watched a few minutes of Springer a few days ago (somebody else's TV) and it was pointless to have the sound on. It was just one continuous bleep. You could tell the fight was scripted because the big fat security guy with the headphones knew where to move BEFORE the punch was thrown.
