Update on my fur friend, Tantris....
He's back from the doc, and a bit woozy at the moment. His problem is spondylosis (a type of arthritis in his back/spine) and a bit of a bladder infection to complicate matters. He got a shot of prednisone because it there is a lot of inflammation at the moment. Also on antibiotics for the bladder infection (they said that's pretty common because dogs with this condition tend to hold their urine a lot longer than normal because it's kinda hard for them to get up and lift their legs so to speak.) Was a bit worried about a heavy steroid, but the vet said at his age (Tantris is 12 and chows usually only live to be 12 or so), it's likely that he will die of natural causes before a steroid causes him difficulties and it will make him more comfortable a lot sooner than if we used non-steroidal anti-inflammatories.

So thanks for all the good karma. He's about as old as chows get so making him comfortable for the rest of his life is my biggest concern.

5. They don't get much cuter, but my god grooming is a hassle...
If you even look at a chow wrong their fur gets matted. Usually each grooming session results in a couple grocery sacks full of hair, but he's a sweetie about it for the most part. I was a little unsure about adopting him all those years ago because he was already grown and in the pound (chows can be mean as shit if not raised properly), but he played up the pity like you wouldn't believe (whining at me from the cage then tried to lay in my lap while but couldn't because of the cage he was in at the pound). Some asshole owner left him tied to a pole on the interstate and that's how he ended up in the pound. No regrets at all about him. He gets along well with the cats and other dogs and didn't even have to housebreak him.

Gonna miss him when he goes.
