you are remember, a good egg ;)

things will be better and you will find something where you are happier that sounds like a crappy situation all the way around and I know you have had to work all those weekends and that has to just bite the big one.

Even the regulars get every 7th weekend off? Is that the weekend option folks?

24. it felt right--
they have what they call weekenders at this hospital who are scheduled to work fri, sat, sun. they get an extra shift diff for doing this and part of their deal is that they get every 7th weekend off at their option.

i however, had been scheduled to orient every weekend for 10 weeks straight, without an option and without the shift diff.

this is just the tip of the iceberg as to what all else has been going on.

you know how political hospitals can be.

If you dont have it, you gotta check out the Apocalypse Now Redoux. It has 50 minutes of previously deleted scenes. It is much darker- like that could even be possible- than the orig.

it's a hard story to make a movie, but they did a good job and the use of SE Asia instead of Africa (the original story) was an interesting touch indeed.

second greatest film of all time. There is no cooler line than Robert Duvall's, "I love the smell of napalm in the morning." That whole monologue is, uh, classic cinema.

6. Peace Frog
Sums up the dissolution of the late 60's social and poltical scene quite succinctly.

And "L.A. Woman", which is both about a woman who is metaphorically a city and vice versa.

Great driving tune when commuting down the 405.

I also love "Spanish Caravan" and "Running Blue", Morrison's tribute to Otis Redding.

33. Thanks to you for this thread. It never hurts to go back and
reconsider great music. The Doors freaked a lot of folks out -- especially folks in New Haven and Miami -- but they emerged from those recording studios with some of the most distinctive and disturbingly beautiful music there was.

A very potent band.

21. Tough choice
I love The Doors and probably like Riders on the Storm and The End the most as far as listening. However, I have memories of my dad asking me as a teenager to play Light My Fire on the piano (as well as The Sound of Silence but that isn't the Doors). For that reason, I picked Light My Fire.

and it reminds me of riding in a car on hot summer days listening to the am radio- this is a Doors song that works on a 1960s car am radio- it's the 1960s, like a top ten Beatles or Rolling Stones song on the radio, in a car, in the 1960s...

another version- (bad sound, but so what)

May take a week
And it may take longer
They got the guns
But we got the numbers
Gonna win, yeah

60. I used to be really, really into these guys
But I haven't seriously listened to them in ages. I'd vote for Love Me Two Times, but it's not on the list.

There's no way the results of this poll will be bad, since I don't think there's such a thing as a bad Doors song. I know the time they existed in was a period of almost insane creativity, but they recorded six albums that truly transcend rock music. It's not that any member of the band was an amazing talent (even Jim), but the four of them just played together so well. They really did become a single entity, both on vinyl and on stage.

Those are all fantastic songs. My all-time favorite though is still The W.A.S.P.(Texas Radio and the Big Beat). No video though, which sucks ass!!

Doors - The Wasp (Texas Radio And The Big Beat) Lyrics

I wanna tell you 'bout Texas Radio and the Big Beat
Comes out of the Virginia swamps
Cool and slow with plenty of precision
With a back beat narrow and hard to master

Some call it heavenly in it's brilliance
Others, mean and rueful of the Western dream
I love the friends I have gathered together on this thin raft
We have constructed pyramids in honor of our escaping
This is the land where the Pharaoh died

The Negroes in the forest brightly feathered
They are saying, "Forget the night.
Live with us in forests of azure.
Out here on the perimeter there are no stars
Out here we is stoned - immaculate."

Listen to this, and I'll tell you 'bout the heartache
I'll tell you 'bout the heartache and the loss of God
I'll tell you 'bout the hopeless night
The meager food for souls forgot
I'll tell you 'bout the maiden with wrought iron soul

I'll tell you this
No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn

I'll tell you 'bout Texas Radio and the Big Beat
Soft drivin', slow and mad, like some new language

Now, listen to this, and I'll tell you 'bout the Texas
I'll tell you 'bout the Texas Radio
I'll tell you 'bout the hopeless night
Wandering the Western dream
Tell you 'bout the maiden with wrought iron soul

95. Moonlight Drive
Let's swim to the moon
Let's climb through the tide
Penetrate the evening
That the city sleeps to hide

Let's swim out tonight, love
It's our turn to try
Parked beside the ocean
On our moonlight drive.

Let's swim to the moon
Let's climb through the tide
Surrender to the waiting worlds
That lap against our side.
Nothing left open
And no time to decide.
We've stepped into a river
On our moonlight drive.

Let's swim to the moon
Let's climb through the tide
You reach a hand to hold me
But I can't be your guide.
It's easy to love you
As I watch you glide.
We're falling through wet forests
On our moonlight drive.

Come on, baby, gonna take a little ride
Going' down by the ocean side
Gonna get real close
Get real tight
Baby gonna drown tonight.
Going' down, down, down.

98. Of the choices on the list, I went with "Riders on the Storm"
To try to keep it ahead of "The End", the one song by the Doors I do feel is truly overrated. For me, it would be between "Light My Fire" and "Riders..." out of the choices on the list. It would be truly difficult to pick a favorite Doors song, but some of my other favorites that aren't listed would include "The Crystal Ship", "End of the Night", "Alabama Song", "Take It as It Comes", "Moonlight Drive", "The Unknown Soldier", "Five to One", "Waiting for the Sun", "Wishful Sinful", "Runnin' Blue" (although I seem to stand alone in liking that one a lot!), and "The Changeling."

99. "Moonlight Drive" and "The Wasp" (Texas Radio and the Big Beat)
Had a conversation with my 17 year old daughter today and she told me she loves The Doors. She even has a copy of the Oliver Stone movie with Val Kilmer and she watches it all the time. I'm so proud of her.
