5. When he had Gilmore to focus and refine his ideas, yes

Sounds evil, but I think it's true. Waters is very creative, especially with word play and lyrical/thematic ideas, but not a great musician; with Gilmore sort of "editing" his ideas, refining the music and developing the ideas, they did some incredible stuff. Waters on his own - kind of lame. Gilmore on his own isnt' as good as the two together, either, but I enjoyed of Gilmore's solo stuff.

Waters' stuff is always just missing a certain something that would have made them incredible.
