Oh my god! My whole tooth just fell out!
I was eating a tuna sandwich and felt something hard. I spit my whole crown out!!

I told the dentist at my cleaning a couple days ago it felt tender where that tooth was. She could not find anything. Apparently it was rotten in there.

Nothing but a snag. Doesn't seem to hurt - cept for it's sharp as hell where the snag is.

Startled the shit out of me!!

1. Same thing happened to me last Fall
Sorry to say the dentist was unable to replace the $700 unit, and talked about a multi-thousand dollar "triple-bridge". I've had that empty spot in my mouth on "ignore" ever since.

34. It's a new material that is now being used for
permanent plates. It is flexible and comfortable, unlike the stiff ones they used to use. I love mine.

19. Okay, here's the solution to all your problems -
Edited on Tue Jan-13-04 01:48 AM by Rabrrrrrr
You call up a dentist. Convince him/her to come to your place to work on the tooth - that way you don't have to shower, or get out of your PJs.

You have a couple friends come over with cameras.

Dentist shows up, sees you in the PJs, and gets excited. He/She works on your tooth, but then asks, "Aren't you uncomfortable? I've been working on your tooth. I bet you could use some relaxing to help ease the pain." Then he/she starts to undress you, and yada yada yada.

Your friends, meanwhile, have been filming, and continue to film.

So, you get your dental work without having to shower or go anywhere; AND the porn tape you've just made will more than pay for the cost of the dental work.

it's SOOOO win-win all the way around.

And as we all know from porn movies, this kind of thing happens EVERY time a delivery person, construction worker, pool maintenance person, or repair person comes to someone's home, so there's no chance at all that she (the dentist you called) wouldn't end up doing that.

I mean, it happens in porn films, so it's true, right?

Would you? I think that would be worse. I've hear so many horror stories from restaurants, and this wouldn't surprise me.

And my star should not be green, and it does not appear so to me.

18. Cheaper
in the long run to get those implants. I've had to replace those $3000
crowns as well. Trouble is, they never had the implants 20 years ago, otherwise I would have had them put in at the time.
It's much better to just replace one at a time than it is to get 3 at once. Expensive though, but they don't hurt at all.

22. I don't remember this costing $3000 the first time?????
There is NO WAY I can pay 1/2 of that right now!!! I'll just have her put a spacer in there and leave it instead for later.

Just can't afford it.

16. That scares me...
I haven't lost any teeth at this point but as I get older, it's always a concern. For some reason, I'm absolutely scared shitless of it myself. I'm sure it's not as big of a deal as it seems though.

24. Old Age
creaps up on you.

But back in the lat 50's early 60's even 70's there were no such things as floride in the water, dental plans, floride treatments, etc.
Now, your teeth will prob. last longer if you take care of them.
Around 35, my teeth started to go. next thing I knew, they were grinding away, putting in crowns.
DON'T do that, get the implants instead. Rather than a root canal, get an implant. Much less pain involved. And you never have to do it again. If you bust a tooth, you just stick on a nice new one.

21. It's called "idiopathic internal resorption" which in dentist-speak means
"Your tooth is/has fallen out of its own accord and we don't know what caused it." Seriously.

I know -- I lost my #5 upper right bicuspid in this manner a few years ago. It was tender and felt strange; my dentist x-rayed it, and couldn't see anything wrong. By the following week an infection was underway, and the tooth was ready to fall out. Got it pulled, and was fitted for a "Maryland Bridge," which is a cool compromise -- you don't have to destroy the two healthy surrounding teeth with a three-unit bridge (but this only works with certain teeth -- they can't do it in front, for example).

Sorry to hear this -- dental problems are such a drag. Hang in there, WAD, and keep us posted!

Take care -- :toast:

So there is no tooth to pull here. Sorry if i left that impression. This was a WHOLE TOOTH crown that came off.

25. Ah, a fake crown thing - hopefully it can just be reglued on, then
though I'm sure there'll be some work to clean off the old glue, etc...

or did it bring some of the tooth with it?

Anyway, I'm off to the dentist tomorrow, too - to get a cavity filled in a wisdom tooth.

28. I honestly don't know if what I see inside of that crown is tooth or crown
material. I'll just wait and see what the dentist says tomorrow.

It's not bothering me now at all right now.

(not that it's a word)
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I had to get a crown last year, with insurance it was $700 bucks (the price I pay for my beautiful teeth :nopity: ). Maybe you'll get lucky and get it replaced with a warranty or something. Sorry about that. Sorry about the pain too.

35. Never did get in to the dentist today
They were going to squeeze me in Friday afternoon!

I told here there was a little screw in there the size of a pin that was from the previous crown work, sticking down and cutting my tongue. She said she have to talk to him to work me in sooner. I said I'd hold.

tap ... tap ... tap....

He will see me tomorrow afternoon.

I got a good look in there with a flashlight and saw the screw. There was definitely a good chunk of tooth that broke off with that crown.

I sure hope this isn't expensive. I think my dental pays half for something like this. Maybe I'll just have him do the half that is paid for.

36. a rough tooth can be a whole other can of worms
I lived with a rough rear tooth for a long time when I didn't have dental coverage, and I had gotten used to the pain of it rubbing on my tongue but began having a lot of referred pain in my neck and ear. Then there was a low-grade infection causing swollen saliva glands, etc....it became a mess. When the dentist smoothed over the rough spot, the reduction in pain in the whole area was amazing.

So don't let a rough tooth go!
