Man Breasts!
I'm growing them. :wtf:

I'm sorry for the disturbing nature of this post. If the title of this thread didn't scare you away, I assume you're on-board so i'll continue.

I'm 19 years old and for the past year, I've been watching breasts develop on my chest. I guess I would be expecting them if I were at all overweight. I'm 5'7 and about 145 pounds. And since I don't have that big of a stomach (or much fat anywhere else) they protrude even more so. I've tried going to the gym 4 times a week for the last couple of months and i'm in great shape but to my horror...they're still there last time i checked in the mirror. :(

Any other guys have these things?? And, if so, what if anything can be done? And yes, I'm sure this would be funny to me too if it weren't me this were suddenly happening to.

1. I actually saw this Discovery Health documentary thing about this
After puberty, this young dude seemed to develop extra tissue and had it corrected surgically. Apparently, it happens to some men. You could go to an endocrinologist (doc that specializes in hormone stuff) and see if you could get something.

(feeling very glad I'm female right now because my breasts would be awfully scary on a dude)

eating alot of TOFU?
Tofu causes, or has estrogen, and can cause a male to develop. so I hear.
best to have a blood test and check levels and see.

5. If they are really pronounced, go to the doctor to get
your hormones tested. My first guess would be that you have an elevated prolactin level. The doctor will ask you if you've been experiencing any discharge from them. They can fix this problem with medicine like Parlodel or Dostinex. I know all of this because I have high prolactin levels which is helping cause my infertility. My husband has small man-breasts, but he's fat. I hope some of this helps and I wish you the best.

6. I had them when I was a bit younger than you
they went away on their own.

Have your testosterone levels checked. Also have your pituitary checked. Have them check for Addison's disease.

7. It's called gynecomastia...
And it also goes by the extremely crude locker-room name of "bitch tits." (Other posters -- I do *not* condone the use of that phrase -- it's simply how some much lesser-evolved men refer to the condition.) It has many causes -- I had it for awhile as a by-product of cancer treatment.

It's benign, but it is embarrassing and can impact your confidence and morale.

You've received some excellent advice in the above posts; have your doc check your "fluids" and see if he has any recommendations.

Good luck with this --

9. Yup, nothing to be ashamed of.
Pro-wrestler/movie "actor" Duane "The Rock" Johnson experienced the same thing, though his were thought to be the by-product of steroid use.

10. I don't know if this is even current thinking. It was a few years ago.
I have heard it proposed that if a man smokes a lot of pot, gynomastia can result.

11. Look At The Flip Side
I met the most pregant woman I've ever seen with a beard and moustache better than mine in a hospital because of a hormone shift.

You might want to check with your Doctor to make certain something isn't happening when you least expect it.

12. Blow a lot of Boo?
I've read that marijuana usage can cause "Man Tits"
Or are you taking "suppliments" that you buy from some shady character at the gym?

Ask your Doctor.

14. See A Doctor
As everybody suggested, see someone who knows what the hell they're talking about. A doctor can tell what, if anything, is happening and what you can do. Some prescription drugs can cause it, as well as a bunch of other things.

Often, it's not a symptom of anything and nothing's wrong. It's possible they'll go away on their own.

There are plenty of guys who have them. If they really bother you and there's no underlying medical problem to deal with, they can be surgically reduced.

Just so you know - you probably notice them more than anyone else on the planet does!
