Extremely esoteric Johnny Carson Tonight Show bumper question.
Edited on Thu Apr-12-07 10:17 PM by Poll_Blind
Who was the artist who did all the lush bumpers for his show? I was trying to find out the artist (there were a few but one who had a penchant for lush jungle scenes seemed to dominate) but all I could find was how Johnny Carson's bumpers inspired other late-night talkshows to have similarly-themed bumpers.

Anyone? I've found just the answer to just about everything I ever wanted to know on the Internet. That's one I haven't been able to track down and I'd love to own prints of those. Just so damned groovy....

Much thanks- you good folks have helped me track down a few things I wouldn't have been able to in the past! I wonder if anyone even remembers them...lots of caterpillars, green leaves, jungle environments, etc. with "More to Come" at the top or bottom. Just killer stuff.

These were both from the 70's and 80's, IIRC.

OnEdit: If anyone knows the names of artists who do work like this I'd love to know their names!

...to stay up late to watch: Carson's Tonight Show and Dr. Who. Great stuff.

Ah, the strange but enduring and pleasing memories of childhood.

OnEdit:I'm happy that someone remembers what I'm talking about!

4. Well, the closest so far that I've found was from some E-Bay auctions..
Unfortunately none of the segues (that's what the seller called them instead of bumpers) are the jungle/nature theme that I remember so well but of famous movie stars. Here is a link to the page. You can still see the pictures if you hover your mouse cursor over the polaroid icons for the "featured" sellers. I think there's a Cary Grant and a Fred Astaire.

If I can't pull up anything more tonight I'll probably revisit it in a few weeks or a month or so- I really do love those images. Maybe I can find an artist who does artwork like that in the meantime.

Good to know there's another fan out there. I'm also considering trying to hunt down a Tonight Show memorabilia seller (possibly the person who sold the previous cards on E-Bay) and see if they can answer the question.
