I am so sad.
My dog Tantris isn't doing well at all today. He's definitely uncomfortable and he's not eating or drinking and he's grouchy as hell. I think he is letting me know it's time to let go. If he isn't doing better in the next few days, I think I am going to have to have him put down. This is the part of having furry friends that is always so hard. You always know the day is coming, but it doesn't make it any easier when that day finally does come.

Me all morning -> :cry::cry::cry:

3. God, I'm so sorry....
We had to do that with one of our cats last year (our favorite kitty, too, she was so docile and loving) and it was not easy..I'm tearing up right now thinking of it.

My sympathies, LV....

4. Oh, no...
That's awful. There's no words that can make the situation any better. That's one of the hardest decisions you can ever make.

All I can say is that you'll have our prayers and thoughts during this sad time.

A gentle hug,
Terry

5. I am very sorry to hear that...
especially after yesterday's thread, in which it sounded like he was at least comfortable. Hugs to you and to Tantris! Perhaps it could be related to the medications he got yesterday? I know that the cats are pretty lethargic and grouchy after they get medications they are not accustomed to getting. If not, my prayers go to you.

6. Did you go to the Vet? Is the dog on medicine?
I ask because if Tantris is on new meds it takes a few days for them to kick in and they can upset the stomach at first. If the answer to my questions is yes, give Tantris a little time. Things may improve.

8. Yes, we took him to the vet yesterday.
He's on prednisone and antibiotics. That's why I am holding off a few days to make a decision. It just breaks my heart to see him hurting though.

10. Definately hang in there with Tantris.
It's probably the meds. He's fighting to stay with you. Give him a chance. You will know when it's time. And bug the Vet about the side effects and how long they are likely to last. I'm sending many many good thoughts your way.

7. He could just be reacting to the steroids
Give the vet a call and see what they say side effects might be. I'm very sorry he isn't doing better and I feel for you.

Hang in there....sending vibes to you and Tantris.

9. Definitely could be
Animals often react like that to steroids, because it overstimulates their nervous systems. My gecko, Babu, was on topical steroids for an injury and she became aggressive, would'nt sleep, eat or drink for a few days at least. She recovered 100%, so hang in there!

I'm so sorry for the agony you're experiencing...and the pain that poor Tantris is suffering.

I know from experience how difficult it is to make the decision to euthanize a dear friend. You may find some insight and answers here: http://rainbowsbridge.com/Grief_Support/Making_the_decision_to_put_a_pet_down.htm

13. Talk to him and ask him. He'll tell you exactly what's going on if
you just sit with him and listen for a little while.

I know this sounds hokey and crazy, but if you just tune in to him and chill for a while, he'll tell you what you need to know.

He could use some reassurance too. This isn't fun for him. So chat with him... tell him what's going on, and suss out how he feels about it.
