For the past couple of months, I've been getting these spam emails that just contain seemingly random words. Anyone know what this is all about? Here's one I got today:

1. As a matter of fact I know exactly what that is about... |
|
It's explained in this article: http://www.wired.com/news/infostructure/0,1377,61886,00.html?tw=wn_tophead_3Basically, it's a method spammers use to get past filters.

4. but there's nothing else there |

All that these emails contain are the random words. There's no advertisements for penis enlargement or refinancing or anything else. Just gibberish. I don't get it.

5. I'm guessing it's a test run... |
|
To see what will filter through.. or somebody messed up and forgot to place the ad in.

2. We've had a couple of threads about that |
|
My best guess that it's meaningless drivel. There's a small code at the very bottom of the email. That's the actual "package".
I think it's a virus trigger.

3. They are trying to fool some spam filters, which look at all the words - |
|
in an email before classifying it as spam or not.
Just my educated guess. If anyone knows for sure please chime in...

next it will be something like
'Get a lonsendger one, shabsurde will love it'
that's an actual sub heading in one i got.
If you have a way to block the sender it sometimes helps. But then they get or have another address and keep them coming.

7. I haven't noticed a repeat "sender" |
|
There may have been some, but I've never blocked any, and I haven't really memorized any names yet. It's wild and wacky. :)

8. from what i've read and understand |
|
just opening the email to read it (and in my case due to the operation of my spam filter to block the sender) notifies the sender that the address was valid.
blocking it may help, but using a different sender address keeps it coming from elsewhere.
it's no win.
btw, i'm suprised i can even get to this message to send another. DU is at a crawl again...data coming in at speeds of 43 bytes a second, etc. dp
