The rarest birds: commercials that you NEVER tire of
Boy, I bet there's going to be only a couple. Mine are as follows:

The Geico commercial featuring Mr. Jiggyfly; and

the Inventec commercial featuring the noodleloafs declaring how rich they would be if they had patented their ideas. I'm pretty sure this only plays on the Science Channel; who the target audience is supposed to be is utterly beyond me.

The all-time list isn't particularly long either. The only two that come to mind are also from Geico. (They actually change their commercials before you get a chance to get sick of them; I wonder how long before other companies figure out that this is a good idea?). For some reason, the one with the earthquake caused by the guy jumping up and down due to saving money on his car insurance always killed me. Also the brief one where the customer points out that he asked for no mayo on his sandwich and the waitress scrapes it off on the table.

Other than those, though, MAN I hate tv commercials!

15. All-time classic. The first time I saw it I was with my mom in the hospita
She almost pulled out her IV she was laughing so hard.

Staples had another great one that I've only seen twice about "The Voice of God."

Hysterical, but I bet it offended people.

2. My personal favorite
..is from Maidenform, set in an Italian village with a woman singing operatic stuff in the background while lingerie blows off of someone's clothesline. At the end this babe wrapped in a towel comes out to find all her undies gone and the voiceover announces an annual sale is underway.

All of the little phones are lined up diagonally out in a parking lot with balloons floating off of them and the guy yells real loud like those car dealer commercials we have all seen. Absolutely cracks me up!

5. I recall one series from some years back.
It was for Pace's Picante Sauce, and they shamelessly (but affectionately) exploited cowboy/redneck stereotypes. I might have stepped away from the TV for a pit-stop during the program, but I would NEVER miss any of those. (I only recall two in that series).

Around that same period of time, I recall a few from a lesser soft-drink company (7-UP or Dr. Peppers?], that came on early in the morning. They had a sort of campy sci-fi theme, but I can't recall much else about them. I enjoyed them too.

I also spent much time in Japan, and recall with fondness many of those commercials. The idea of building brand recognition by constant irritation was alien to their thinking. That may have changed in the past 12~15 years, but I somehow doubt it.

6. I like the FedEx new ad/campaign, especially the "Doomed" one
With the "Because I'm you son", the "I don't do shipping, I'm a MBA" and the classic IMO "If this doesn't go out today, we're Doomed...Doooooooomed!!!"

Props to those creative individuals who came up with the recent campaign!!

7. The Nike "Basketball church" ads.
Those ads really remind me of the church scene in The Blues Brothers where the congregation is dancing anf jumping around. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if that's where some of the inspiration for that ad came from.

11. I don't care for commercials much

But my little shi-tzu has her favorites. She watches television and anything with animals will set her off. the tv is mounted up on the wall or she would have gone through the screen already. She knows the music/sound effects in her favorite ads and will come running in from the bedroom just to bark at them. Her latest kick is the meow mix commercial where the cat is trying to sing the theme but is coughing from hairballs. She goes ballistic over the Geico spot with the squirrels that make the car crash too.

there was a spot for an Internet provider. (Errol's I think, they are no more)

That music would get his attention every time.

I tried to get it on tape, but never could.

Oh, he likes rock and roll music to this day. (he's 6)

23. I don't think they show it anymore, but...
Edited on Wed Jan-14-04 02:23 PM by Anaxamander
...it was a car commercial (shows you how much I pay attention) where the guy stops in his driveway, looks quizzically at this new car, goes inside and asks his wife, "Whose car is that in the driveway?"

The wife, somewhat exasperated, responds, "It's yours, Frank."

Frank, looking self-satisfied, responds, "It is, isn't it?"

That one always cracked me up. I was sorry to see it go :^(

24. A Commercial For Tobassco Sauce
A big ugly fellow in bibbed overalls is eating something (looks like pizza) and he pours tobassco sauce on every bite. He gets bit by a mosquito, the mosquito flies away, and then it explodes. It has me ROFL every time I see it.

29. I think that's Coors Light
"Real American Heee-rrroooo"---they used to play those on the radio. I loved the one for "Mister Male Cheer-leader"---the cheezy 1980's Rock Ballad singer really cracks me up...and in the background, as the narriator is waxing poetic about Real American Heroes, the singer is wailing in the background.

I hate commercials, but I loved listening to those on the radio

44. Nooooo! It's Bud Light
(which is swill, imo, but anyway...)

I LOVE those commercials, so much that just the other day I found a web page where you can listen to them all. I sat here laughing like a complete LUNATIC for like 2 hours. :D

http://www.mizzou.edu/~npvytc/Budlight/Budlight.html

Personal favorites include "Mr. Giant-Taco-Salad Inventor", "Mr. Tiny Thong Bikini Wearer", "Mr. Horse Drawn Carriage Driver" and the aforementioned "Mr. Footlong Hot Dog Inventor"...

(Enjoy at your own risk. I take no responsibility for keyboards damaged by projectile liquid-through-nose expulsion. ;))

28. The one for Caller ID service featuring this big lug of a sportsfan,
only he's watching a romantic movie, mouthing the love lines, and crying. The phone rings, he checks the caller ID and notices that it's his sports goodbuddy. He changes the channel to the football game and picks up the phone. "Bobbaaaaaaay!" he yells, and exchanges a few 'oo-rah' pleasantries. After hanging up, he turns it back to the love story, and breaks down again. His cat meows sympathetically, and he strokes the cat sadly through his tears. "I know.....I know...(sob)."

I LOVE that one.

30. The new one for JuicyFruit gum
where the kids are at a birthday party and hitting the pinata, and all this Juicy Fruit busts out of it.

The pinata (a multi-coloured donkey-type) then comes to life, goes insane and tries to steal the Juicy Fruit from a young black girl---growls and attempts to bite her.

Kids are screaming, the clown looks mighty confused, and this pinata is galloping through the house as children cower in fear.

The pinata then escapes through the doggy-door, with the young black girl holding on to his tail, trying to stop him from escaping with the Juicy Fruit, only to have his crepe-paper tail pull off as he makes a quick escape into the neighborhood.

I love that commercial

31. The old lady and her cats (got milk?)
My favorite, all-time commercial. They haven't played it for awhile but whenever it came on I'd stop what I was doing and watch it. If it appeared while I was fast-forwarding through commercials on my VCR I'd stop and watch it. I NEVER got tired of it.

You know the one, the cuckoo clocks ring and it's Yum yum time. Time to give the lovely kitties their milk. Uh oh. Milk's all gone. I'll just give them this powdered milk substitute I have lying around. Kitties don't like that. They're hissing, pulling all the blinds, pulling the circuit breaker to kill the lights ... Uh oh.

A classic.

36. A couple of my favorites....
The Bud lite commercial where the guy has the trained hawk that flies off the balcony and comes back with two bottles of Bud lite in his talons and then someone ask where the birds get the beer from and they show this classy looking outside cafe and everybody is going into a panic because the bird is coming back.

My other favorite was the subtle one that Fruit of the Loom did a couple of years ago with camera panning along the clothesline with skimpy thong type male underwear on it while playing "The Nutcracker" in the background until they get some nice roomy briefs. I laughed for hours over that one.

My all time favorite commercial yet is the one for Earthlink, I think, DSL service. Woman sitting ion front of the computer, husband walks in and says "Are you getting online?", woman says "Uh-huh.", man says "Where's the noise?", woman looks at him funny and says "What noise?". Man says "You know...chhhhhhh-oooooooh-WAAAAAAAAHHHH!" mimicking the sound of a dial-up modem I swear, pitch for pitch! I roll every time I see that one!
