1. Any given Ronin chase was better than those listed above

In My Rarely Humble Opinion

3. I have to agree
Ronin ruled; the chases on the French RNs were incredible.

18. Another vote for Ronin
I drive a turbo Audi A6 - after seeing Ronin I wanted to trade it for one of those bad boy A8's!

That, and a LAWS rocket launcher.

29. Definitely Agree.
That's a fookin' awesome car chase flick, and you're rarely humble.

4. I voted for "The Spy Who Loved Me"
One of the favorite things of the Bond movies, IMO, were the cars with all of the gadgets. In "Spy", it was a Lotus Esprit that could turn into a submarine! And the chase in the film was way cool! :-)

6. Other(s)
The Seven Ups was cool as was Diamonds are Forever (James Bond) - filmed before a real audience on the sidewalks of Las Vegas.

21. Loved that one, too.
Worth the rental price just for that scene.

A pre-CSI William Petersen, and Willem Dafoe. Great flick. (and if you look really close, you see an uncredited Jane Leeves in a non-speaking role...)

8. Two "Other"
Most Clever: "Diamonds are Forever", Bond escapes from a squad of police cars in a small parking lot.

Funniest: "What's Up Doc" "There's not much to see really, we're inside a Chinese dragon."

was the knowledge that Steve McQueen did his own driving.

20. Enough of the amateurs, already.
"Bullitt" featured the single best car chase in cinematic history. Get over it.

22. Bullitt is great, but...
Edited on Wed Jan-14-04 03:49 PM by CanuckAmok
Cinematographically speaking, it's not the best. It is flawlessly paced and choreographed, and the relative geography (the ability to convey to the audience the position of each vehicle relative to one another and the surroundings), is amazing. BUT...there are some glaring inconsistencies and continuity errors, and an unfortunate use of ramped camera speed (fast motion), which looks a little dated (I'm referring to Bullitt 'ditching' his car and snapping the front suspension after the Charger explodes). Some continuity errors:

1) several times, a VW Beetle appears in the 'wrong' place, relative to its position in the previous shot.

2) the Charger loses too many hubcaps, and in some shots, hubcaps we've seen fly off are back on the car

3) There were two Mustangs used to shoot the sequence. Both were '68 Fastbacks, but one was a GT, and one was a base model with a 390. While the front grille area was screened with both cars, so the foglights of the GT wouldn't be visible, nobody bothered to match the rear valances. One car sports a GT rear end, and the other doesn't.

That said, for sheer spills and chills, plus technocal excellence, CanuckAmok's Best Car Chase Ever award goes to...

The final chase in George Miller's "The Road Warrior", in which the barbarians are trying to capture the tanker full of "juice".

First runner-up is a four-way tie between Ronin's 7-Series BMW (wrong way on the freeway), and the Countach/Hummer chase from "The Rock", the chase from Bullitt, and the original Blues Brothers Mall scene.

Get over THAT!

Note: honourable mention for a boat chase goes to John Woo's "Face/Off" and the James Bond film, "Live and Let Die"

On edit: more honourable mentions:

Helicopter vs. train, goes to Mission Impossible I.

Hovercraft vs. Lamborghini goes to Jackie Chan's "Rumble in the Bronx.

2) the Charger loses too many hubcaps, and in some shots, hubcaps we've seen fly off are back on the car

Seriously, CA, that's what makes this the best chase!
