Fraggin' frassa daggim frag -- THEEEEP!!! (rant)

Sorry, had to blow off some steam. :D
I have had an important epiphany, satori, what-have-you. Here it is:

The right has no monopoly on the ignorant zealot.

It turns out, there are "liberals" who are as ignorant as the worst of the freepers. There'z even people on DU that way -- who grasp onto a tiny bit of incorrect information, or a massive generalization, and cling to it like Jesus handed them a stone tablet.

I'm so disappointed. I've always thought the great thing about the left (as well as one of it's biggest drawbacks) is the ability to see every side of an issue. I mean, when you can see where everyone's coming from, it's harder to believe in the black-and-white, good-and-evil nonsense. That's where the GOP has an advantage; the unexamined philosophy is easy to push, easy to distill into a talking point. "Are Muslims evil?" "Yes!" is much easier to rally ignorant people to than "Some may be, but there's a complex issue here that has nothing to do with....".

My personal revelation is this: in the same way the GOP leads the weak-minded in one direction, the left leads some similarly weak-minded folks in the other. We're allowing the complex issues to get reduced to white or black hats. And I don't feel particularly good about it. It seems counter to the point.

Fraggin' frass daggim fraggity. :grr:

1. Some issues are black and white.

Some issues are candidate killers. Some issues which to you may seem small and insignificant are to others hugely important. It seems to me that what you are really saying is that those who disagree with you are as ignorant and weak minded as freepers and those agree with you are level headed. I think that your problem is that in your political world there are no absolutes. In mine, there are absolutes and I see this as a failing on YOUR part not mine. The problem with the Democratic party is we have spent to much time listening to those who seek to compromise.

If you're so disappointed in your ignorant DU associates why don't you just leave ?

2. Way to miss the point
Good grief, I hardly think people who disagree with me are by definition stupid.

Look at it this way:

All CEOs are evil.
All hunters are evil.
All meat-eaters are evil.
All SUV drivers are evil.
All non-union workers are evil.
All soldiers are evil.
All police are evil.
All rich people are evil.

See where I'm going? It's not a matter of "candidate-killers", it's an issue of zealotry clouding complicated issues. We do that, and we're no better than the other side. If we refuse to educate, and go to rhetoric (where it's easier to drum up support), we're taking a page out of the Republican playbook.

And that's a REAL compromise I can't live with.

5. yes
Yes, it's a good book. A lot of rightwingers like it because it reminds them of liberals, :wtf: but I think it applies to ANYBODY who subscribes blindly to a belief.
