I hope this is a fashion trend that goes away: UGG Boots

Uggs to me mean one thing: UGLY!!!

I'm sure they are practical in some sense but geez, people are now overcharging for them because they've become a "hot fashion trend".

Anyone here own a pair of UGGs and can explain the fascination to me other than wearing the same shoes that Cameron Diaz and J-Lo wear??

2. I have an old 10 year old pair in the back of the closet...
THE ONLY time I would EVER wear them is in extreme frigid cold and deep snow conditions... One winter in Jackson, Wyoming, they were my saving grace. They really ARE very warm-- so warm, in fact my feet would sweat in them and it was almost too much to have socks on.

But, I agree. They really ARE ugly.

3. Wow, those things are trendy now?
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I wonder if Moon Boots will come back, too.

But hey, I was little.

5. Yeah, I had enormous respect for one of my childhood friends
No matter how much we ragged on him, he always wore his moon boots when it got cold.

8. Aussie mukluks?

They may be sort of ugly, but it's still a beautiful example of form following function-- something rarely seen in wearables.

And not much more expensive than other decent winter boots.

10. this is hilarious
Uggs were trendy here in the north about 7 years ago. They are warm, and that's the attraction. It's funny that they've become a hot fashion trend. Maybe Sorels will be next!!

11. Those things have always been hip AFAIK in Seattle
Not unusual to see folk wearing them in winter especially in places like Kent, Carnation, Monroe , etc....

12. A friend of mine was wearing them the other day.
When he said the were UGG boots, I had no idea what he was talking about--I've never heard of them. He said they were really, really warm; we've got that frigid weather going on now, so I just figured they were a practical winter boot. I had no idea they were a fashion trend!

13. I disagree
I see a warm and comfortable boot. My problem with Uggs is the price. I think they're overpriced by a factor of two, so I'm picking up more reasonably priced, similar style boots when they come into my local shoe shop.

Eagles fans love them! SI can't curse the boots, though. Destiny will prevail in Philadelphia!

16. I disagree, I think UGG boots are fantastic.
They may not be the prettiest boots in the world, but how many pairs of shoes do you own that keep your bare feet warm in below zero temperatures? I'd love another pair. And as far as Cameron and J-Lo go, they were a little slow on the uptake of this trend. UGGs have been around for quite some time now.

I sewed some wool-fleece insoles for my rubber Wellies. Mmmm, much warmer!
