KazaaLite or Kazaa++
Can anyone tell me where to find a copy (not the regular Kazaa)
All the sites seem to be down or blocked.
I heard that the RIAA had stopped Google and Download.com from reporting these sites.

Anty FTP sites?

2. Neither
KaZaa will install so much spyware on your machine that it won't be worth it. It's very hard to totally get rid of that program.

5. True about the official product.

That's true about Kazaa (I've certainly known of a few systems screwed up by this piece of software). I believe the products the poster is asking about are versions of Kazaa which have been tampered to remove the spyware. Sherman Networks is not happy about that.

6. Grokster is worse
You think Kazaa melted your system--I installed Grokster and it took me several days to clean up that mess of spyware and annoyances.

My mom purchased the "for pay" Kazaa (no spyware it promised) and she still had spyware popping up on her machine from it.

I stuck with version 2.0 of Kazaa and the spyware is definitely less.

8. If possibly breaking the law doesn't bother you...
If possibly breaking the law doesn't bother you (it could probably be seen as a D.M.C.A. violation --though I doubt the end user could ever be held responsible for it), the options the original poster is asking about (Kazaa Lite and the other one) should be O.K..

No problem with my system* (though I did have a Spyware issue a long time ago, it was not with Kazaa --it was with the Gozilla download manager, if you must know), but I've seen the problems** happen (or have had the problems reported) on other people's computers and fixed them (either directly or by suggesting a fix --Lavasoft's AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy both seem to get the job done).

* Mainly because I never installed it, I suppose.
** Anything from system slowdowns, system instability, and mysterious errors to losing acces to the internet on broadband connections.

10. People keep saying this FALSEHOOD.
The original KaZaa includes spyware.

However Kazaa Lite made completely independantly, not from "Kazaa" was created specifically to deliver the functionality of Kazaa without the spyware. And it works and works well.

11. Not created independently.

That part is true.

No, Kazaa Lite is the same program as Kazaa with some small amount of tinkering. Apparently they've replaced the DLL which calls up the spyware with a dummy DLL which just keeps the hooks but doesn't actually call up any spyware (under normal circumstances, if you just removed the DLL the program would lose its functionality). This is why Sherman Networks probably has plenty of legal standing to threaten websites hosting the Kazaa Lite program for download.

Edited on Wed Jan-14-04 05:24 PM by rchsod
kazaa lite-resurrection-. nothing else will work. you can go to zeropaid and dig around till you find it, i think it`s in the readers comments so go thru them . also try "ares" and "sharaza" isn`t bad either. they are the best each although each has its faults...

13. Peer to Peer.
An option nobody else is mentioning is using the filesharing networks instead of FTP. Since Kazaa is not the only program out there which provides this sort of functionality you don't have the sort of bootstrapping problem that would seem to be inherent in this sugestion. Try something like Shareaza and if you still must have access to the Kazaa network (which, AFAIK, Shareaza won't give you), use Shareaza itself to search for and download Kazaa Lite.

One problem with this approach might be getting the right file (I have no idea which is the latest version of Kazaa Lite and how one would go about identifying it)

15. Not necessarily.
Exgeneral wrote:

Not necessarily. People can also steal movies and just download all sorts of different things (not always illegal, BTW, it can be a simply a matter of sharing files). I'm not into music and being on a dial-up line makes these sorts of things rather impractical and awkward (though not impossible); however, I have used these applications (when I found out there was such a thing as Kazaa Lite I just had to try using it --it makes me feel good to think that these spyware planting scumbags wouldn't approve of it). In my case, what I've downloaded has been more along the line of Bullshit! episodes (I don't get cable --must say Bullshit! has been somewhat dissapointing in some senses), random porn and Feynman's lectures on PDF format (using Shareaza --not done with that one). I'll probably give up on this newfangled way of looking for files because it's not terribly useful to me (in my days, if you wanted to find a file, you used Archie).
