DU Pet Owners check in here: How many pets, names, types & pics!!!
It's been awhile since we've had one of these threads and now I can officially partake in it since I've joined the world of cat ownership.

I have one pet - a tomcat named Abbott, but I affectionately call him Abbie (just like his namesake - Abbie Hoffman). I'll call him abbiecakes when we snuggle. He refuses to sit on my lap but loves to be hugged when I get home from work. His favorite place to sit is on my windowsills.

4. No photos available, but
-that's something I'm definitely going to have to work on.

Two cats:

Romeo, an 18 year-old, black & brown shorhair Tabby. Neutered male. Curmudgeon. Will snuggle for food.

StirFry, a 6 year-old, colour-point Rag-doll, with huge blue eyes. Neutered male. He's big, but he's a laid-back, Zen-loving sort of kitty. Once brought home a still-warm pork chop.

But I don't think you've seen GoodGirl yet (also known as G2):

I don't have pictures up yet of the third cat (Burke, a black and white domestic shorthair).

Midnight (left) and Elwood (right)

Midnight's a little dim in the wattage, small (but deceptively furry), and very loveable.

Elwood is cleverer than most humans, very big, and cranky as hell.

Border Collie officially named Misty (actually MST as in Mystery Science Theatre because we have no idea where she came from). She's a little different from most Border Collies...like most Border Collies are in the "working class" of dogs. She's in the "Management" class. She's about 8 years old now and still runs the place.

10. No photos, just descriptions.
Toby, the unknown age, but feeble, male cat. Hobbies - throwing up, pooping anywhere, meowing for more food, standing in the middle of the room trying to figure out what he wants to do, looking confused.

Spoofy, the fat tail-free cat (lost in some sort of accident last year), the epitome of cleanliness. Although she personally doesn't use the catbox (she goes outside) she spends 5 minutes, several times a day burying Toby's work and flinging kitty litter everywhere. Also enjoys attempting to bury Toby's canned catfood (unsuccessfully, because she is pawing at a hardwood floor and wooden cabinet).

Polly, the 7 year old American Eskimo. Goes berserk every day when I get home from work, spins in circles and whines until I take her for a walk. Enjoys any food eaten from a cat bowl. Demands to be fed a treat for condescending to take a walk with me. Demands a treat for almost any occasion. Artfully buries tortillas, digs them up months later, and eats them. Likes to lay on top of Toby and lick his ears clean, despite being beaten repeatedly about the face by Toby's paws.

Nasha

Ace

Nasha was adopted at age 2, but we've never told her. She's 12 now.
Ace was adopted at an undetermined age when he walked in one night about 8 years ago.
He knows he's adopted, but he doesn't give a shit.
Ace loves Nasha.
Nasha tolerates Ace.

They were both called Spike.

Gretchen, passed at 21. Loved her like my daughter.
Its odd to know she lived with me half of my life.

She's very young; only about 15 months. She is very loving and likes to sit on my lap when I 'Net surf at night. She lives for the hunt and her most exciting times are when she gets to go outside and look for a mouse at the top of the stairs to the gardens.

You've met them all.

Abbie is soooo cute, btw.

Anyway, here's the spoiled baby, Beverly. (Beverly is a boy; named after one of the twins in Dead Ringers.)

Here's his twin brother, Elliot. Elly was born with many birth defects and has a major weight problem. We take care of him the best we can. He's actually lost a few pounds recently.

And here's Jones with my husband. She is kind of aloof, but loves to sit with Cliff.

Sorry these are the same pictures I've posted before. My new computer is not hooked up to my scanner yet.

21. 7 cats. 3 dogs (all strays except for one)
6 male cats, 1 female. 3 female doggies.
Carol

Big Kitty, Alpha Cat - surfer personality.

GusGus - prima donna :-)

Chong - suffers from periodic bouts of inexplicable melancholy. I suspect if he were a person, he would have been a Lord Byron type.

Tater Tot - rescued from neighbor's roof over Thanksgiving. Is confident that she owns the house.

Pedro (with Tater Tot). Pedro has always adopted all the younger strays we have brought in. He is very in touch with his feminine side.

Blackfoot - absolutely certain he is a dog.

Franco - favorite hobby - kissing noses

Pooey and Wheezer. Pooey, a Chihuahua/Daschund combo we think - was abandoned on a bicycle trail. She now owns a waterbed (ours) and likes to go motoring with the hubby. Wheezer, the Pug, was our only purchased pup - not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but we love her.

Diamond - a Chow/Husky Mix. Abandoned by our neighbors when they moved out and absolutely the smartest dog I have ever owned. She doesn't understand all the little pets, though. Cuteness just doesn't cut it when you are the alpha dog.

Edited on Wed Jan-14-04 07:20 PM by scarlet_owl
My ferrets are both boys and they are named Akira and Tetsuo. Akira is white with red eyes and is deaf. He loves to jump, climb, and bite my feet. Tetsuo is a sable with a mask and he is quite pudgy. He likes to play in bags and give lots of kisses. They both love eating raisins. My cat is a girl and her name is Olive. She is small, but very fat; she is black whith a white belly and a white triangle on her neck. She pretty much sleeps all day. When she does move, she walks into things because she has a vision problem. I have pictures, but my scanner isn't hooked up so I can't show them online. Maybe when I move.

30. Okay...here's my family.
This is Jono. He wandered into the yard as little bitty puppy on a snowy day and he grew up to be this big loving hunk of dog that will cover you in kisses.

This is Tantris, who I rescued from the shelter and has been having problems lately, but seems to be getting better.

This is Lore showing off his blue-black tongue. He's a black chow chow with the sweetest disposition you could imagine. I wish I hadn't had him fixed, because his good nature would be a boon to the breed.

and of course in the sig line are my kitty friends.

Logan is my newest friend. He was left to fend for himself outside after being fixed and declawed and so we took him in.

Xantha was adopted about two weeks after we moved here. She was also living outside in a dumpster and had no claws. (People make me so made).

Sybil is a little medium haired tuxedo girl that was a stray. She is the fastest cat you ever saw.

Mariko is my oldest. She is a traditional appleheaded siamese. I've had her since about 1986 when she was just a 9 week old kitten. She thinks I am momma and she has moved all over the country with me.

Tonka was a kitten wandering the streets of downtown Spokane and my boyfriend was afraid something would happen to him, so we took him in. He's got a purr you can hear from two rooms away.

32. Three cats....
Casey the old one, she's about 14, which isn't old, but she was a stray and from what I can tell she was an outdoor cat, so acts considerably older. She's a calico and kind of stubby.

Catrina, another calico, but way different. She's about 8 years old and is very skittish, but very elegant, long and lean, and hardly ever eats.

Ricky, named after my husband, who died two years ago (silly hey?). She's only two and I bought her from a pet store. She's huge - eats everything in sight. (Maybe that's why Catrina is so thin).

They alolo sleep with me at night which is very comforting. :grouphug:

35. Reno & Noah: Two Abandoned Older Male Cats I Adopted in May '03
From a Vet's Office.

Reno is 8 yrs. old, all black, 14-lbs and the alpha cat. He has an outgoing and fearless personality-runs to the door when the bell rings. He is very affectionate and obsessed with food. If you are eating something, he will pull your hand to his face with his paw so he can smell whatever you're eating. If I'm cooking something he stands on his hind legs and pushes my leg like "HEY! Give me some!" Reno also drinks out of the bathroom faucet. Even though he is a big, muscular, masculine cat, he has a very dainty 'meow'. He also makes gutteral and chirruping sounds that are adorable. He really thinks he can talk. Oh, and he gets jealous of Noah sometimes and tries to hump him. Very weird.

Noah is a little more babyish, mostly white with black spots (and a cute little black nose). He weighs 13 lbs and is 7 yrs. old. He is definitely a lap cat-loves to cuddle. He is very pink-his ears get red when he is frisking around the house. He also has the cutest little pink mouth which he opens to smell things. He makes yowling sounds when being chased by Reno or if he hears mice in the walls. He loves to play and will chase anything-he especially loves the flashlight reflection on the wall. He is a real sweet kitty.

Neither of them bite or scratch and they are great with kids.

The true origin of this phrase is the Mind of The Universal Cat. I was born hearing this phrase. In time I came to understand that The Cat was telling me I was on the planet as a slave to Its higher intelligence. When I fought back, It cursed me with the inability to say "no" to any cat in need.

So meet our six cats. Only a couple of photos here -- for the full array see http://home.earthlink.net/~notheidi63/index.html

Toby's a happy, funny tuxedo cat
Daddy's an asthmatic, bossy, warm & loving tuxedo cat
Cocoa's a rambunctious, hyper kitten who looks part Maine Coon or Norwegian Forest cat

Harry (gray) and Richard (brown) -- littermates, California natives, born July 1994

Petey -- along with Toby (and Scout & Clay, adopted by a friend), born 9/11/01. Petey is the gentlest, sweetest cat on god's green earth, unless you're a cat picking on another cat....

Newbie - stray, wandered to the farm New Years Eve; hasn't received his "permanent name" yet - beautiful, stripes on top, solid white underneath. We suspect someone may have "dumped" him.

When I woke up this morning, Abbie jumped on my bed for some snuggle time. I still can't believe someone would just dump this cat outside. He's such a sweetie.

I think you have a new addition to the family!!!

of course there is a possibility he belongs to someone but there's only two other houses on this isolated street and he didn't come from them. No matter, we love him and we are keeping him. :D

I have a Rottweiler, Legend, and even though Rotties have a bad rap, she is the sweetest dog. And I have a parakeet, who is very lonely. My other parakeet, his best friend, died a couple of months ago. At least he has his mirrors to keep him company.

The cats -- Nightmare and Smoke. Mother and son. 13 and 12 years old. Black and gray longhair domestics. I have had them since Nightmare was pregnant and showed up on my doorstep when she was about 7 months old.

The dog -- Magic. American Cocker Spaniel. Recently adopted from SPCA. Cute, smart, well-behaved, and just adorable! He's going through heartworm treatment, but seems to be doing fine. He and the cats are getting along very well.

92. He looks so much like the dog I had growing up
a teacup Chihuahua named Tequila. I don't have any pictures of Tequila, but she was 2-1/2 pounds when full grown and a very calm, sweet dog. I do have some pictures of her son, Pedro, who was a little bigger - about 4 pounds. I'll have to scan one and post it. He wasn't as good a dog, but that's probably because we didn't have him neutered - it wasn't common to do that when I was a teenager.

15 cats - Zappa, Skruggs, Pato, Batman, Alley. Shasta, KD, Sixtoe, Jasmine, Two Sox, Quazzie, Baby, Bernie, Kitty B, and Eddie

1 wayward wood duck

Sadly where I live, too many, people do not spay their pets. The end result is many strays. I bring in any that find their way to me.
After having them spayed they join our rather large pet family. It's all good ... I adore them. They are always making me laugh.

61. What a great bunch of pets & pics!
I don't have a website to post my pics on, so I can't post them here. But my family includes:

2 cats:

"Lucy," a shorthaired black tom; the cat with an attitude. I inherited him as an adult stray, and after almost 3 years, he is generally civilized, although still quite bossy. He hasn't hurt anybody in more than a year. He owns the house, yard, my bed, and my lap. Right now he is kneading my lap and trying to knock my hands off the keyboard.

"Willow," inherited along with Lucy. A sweet female long-haired classic brown tabby with excess white. Smarter than Lucy, and an introvert. She takes the back of my chair, the foot of my bed, and the top of my filing cabinet next to the computer.

2 hens:

"Chicken Little" and "Clucky Lucky." Also inherited. They are old, but still lay a little for part of the year. They wander freely about the yard, only retiring to a small shed to roost at night. Every day is an easter egg hunt; they are auracanas, and lay green eggs. Somewhere in the yard for me to find.

1 dog:

"Rain," a 9 month-old blue merle aussie. She loves everybody. She adores the cats, who tolerate her tease, her, and sometimes allow her to bathe them. And sometimes smack her down if she gets too enthusastic. She loves to cuddle, to play, and stays within a few feet of me at all times, given the opportunity. She's becoming a great trail dog; we did about 8 miles up and down mountains last Saturday (me on the horse).

2 horses:

"April," my 14 year old mare, the 3rd generation of horses I grew up with. She is 1/4 mustang, 1/4 QH, and 1/4 TB. And one package of dynamite. She is the most impatient creature I've ever met. We wander all over the hills together at every possible opportunity, Rain at our side.

"Frost," the daughter of April and a QH. She'll be 3 this April when her mom turns 15. She is bigger and calmer than her mom, and will do almost anything I ask without protest. I'll probably begin riding her towards the end of next summer.

That's the crew!

80. 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 rabbits, 1 guinea pig
I wish I had a scanner to post pictures - I'm constantly taking pictures of them. I'm surprised most people just have dogs and cats because caged animals are easy to take care of for those in apartments.

My rabbits are sweet and litter trained, and the guinea pig is the bossiest of all of the animals. He whistles for me to get him things whenever I walk into the room (a salad, more hay, more pellets, fill water bottle, etc.)

I wish I had a scanner, also. I have about a hundred pics of her. :-)

She's black and white, and is very playful. She's curious, of course, likes to get into everything. One of her favorite things is to jump up on the computer table and sit right in front of the monitor...or to walk along the keyboard. :-)

93. 3 Maine Coons and one good-sized iguana
I need to take a picture of the iguana, Tastes Like Chicken, so I can post it. He's getting pretty large, and he's reasonably good-natured. Technically, he's not my lizard, but my stepson sort of abdicates the responsibility to me.

My three Maine Coons are:

Yankee Red Witch, a red tabby with white female, the smallest of the three at 15 pounds. Very intelligent, very demanding, a bit cantankerous. Definitely queen of the household.

Capn Jim Hawkcoons, a brown tabby male. My big boy, the most loving cat in creation, and nearly as bright as Yankee. He will do anything for treats. Tuna water and anything made of turkey make him do interesting dances and baby-kitten mews (which are absurd coming from the mouth of a nearly lynx-sized cat).

Friendly Fire, a red tabby male. My "baby monkey" so called because of his habit of swarming up my front and clinging to my neck. A great big nelly queen scaredy-cat. He loves all people, but is deathly terrified of any kind of noise or anything new. He's a huge chickenshit and my little hairdresser (he'll groom hair for hours if you let him). He's gay - we got him because the breeder was unable to use him for breeding when he shrieked in horror and cowered away from the breeding females. He's much happier as a neuter.

All three are very affectionate, so much so that my husband and I often joke about how we need to get some of those aloof, independent cats, because these three are PESTS. You can't do anything alone in a house with Maine Coons.

99. 2 cats
Sorry no pics - but I intend to buy a digital camera soon.

The kitties are brother and sister, about six months old. When not chasing around the house, running into walls at top speed, they love to stare into the toilet. They are gray tabbies, with white feet. Gray (the male cat, named after Gray's Oatmeal Stout beer) is almost twice as big as his sister, Sophie. She's tough, though and can wrestle him to the ground any time he annoys her.
