Several months later,how are you liking/disliking IE7? |
|
I upgraded when prompted at first, and then spent a full day on the phone to HP and Microsoft Tech Support (INDIA!!!) trying to figure out why my laptop would suddenly not connect to the internet. After several frustrating hours, got OFF the phone and solved the damn problem ALL BY MYSELF (YAY for the blonde stripper!! Who knew??) It was an stealth upgrade included in the IE7 package to Norton; which I promptly deleted completely, but not before I had uninstalled 7 and gone back to 6. Now I'm wondering if I should go ahead and re-upgrade to 7; since that shouldn't be a problem anymore. Yes? No? Please no pushing to go to Firefox; husband uses this for work and I have to stick with IE.
(this is also part of the effort to bury the you-know-what threads)

I'm not pushing you to Firefox, but that's the browser I use and love now. :)

2. Don't you dare prove Americans are smarter than Indians!!! |
|
You'll make Bill Gates, Michael Dell, Steve Jobs, and the rest of them lose their credibility over their reasonings to offshore and we just can't have that! :wow:
I still prefer Firefox; IE7's alteration of the UI is the downside that still bugs me. I like the phishing filter FWIW, but those scams are easily spotted and Firefox has more to offer anyway. Even a crap one, its spell checker IS one.

techs know the innards of a system and as such are infinitely more valuable than parrots.

6. I love it! And Firefox is a resource HOG in comparision! |
|
IE loads in about 1/4 the time as FF and FF crashes CONSTANTLY.
The "Phishing Filter" causes slowdowns, but if you're smart enough to not get scammed, turn it off.

To disable automatic Web site checking:
Within Internet Explorer, click Internet Options from the Tools menu. Click the Advanced tab. Under the phishing filter, select Turn off automatic Website checking. Click OK.

maybe it's a conflict with their machine? I don't have problems with firefox while IE7 takes twice the time as firefox and tries to load every damned thing up along with it.

13. A couple of fixes for Firefox performance problems. |
|
1. Open Firefox and go to the Address Bar. Type in about:config and then press Enter. 2. Right Click in the page and select New -> Boolean. 3. In the box that pops up enter config.trim_on_minimize. Press Enter. 4. Now select True and then press Enter. 5. Restart Firefox.
When you minimize Firefox it releases RAM that is normally used for the cache.
Another about:config hack:
change browser.cache.memory.capacity to something more reasonable.
"For RAM sizes between 512BM and 1GB, start with 15000. For RAM sizes between 128MB and 512M, try 5000."

I've run IE7 on two different computers and found that FF is faster on both and less of a spacehog as well.

Adblock is a godsend.
But at least Opera is both more secure than IE, and it's standards compliant, which means web designers' lives are a little easier.

It took a while to figure out but I have no trouble with it anymore. Plus,my pc is 7 years old.You would think that would cause problems but it doesn't seem to be the case.It never crashes or seizes up on me.Sometimes when an automatic update starts it crawls but that is more a hardware problem than anything relating to IE7.

Mozilla is better in my opinion it has fewer conflicts, takes less time to load, and is faster...

|
Sorry.
I like it. It's got the advantages of Firefox without some of the incompatibility problems. Plus, the design is way cooler. I loved Firefox for many years, but before IE7 came out, it was starting to drive me crazy. I switched to the Beta IE7 at first, but it had a couple of issues on some of my favorite sites, so I dumped it. But the full release version doesn't have those issues, and I've been thrilled with it.
Now Firefox has to bump it up again.

Haven't had any problems and my machine is almost 6 years old. I will still run multiple windows when I am doing several things at once, I love that I can organize all my tabs on, say, news sites, and keep all my other crap separate.
I am usually on 3-8 websites at any one time, ADD is good for that.

It depends on how many optional themes or extensions you choose to install, but the base install isn't much more than 15 megabytes or so.
