I bought my first CFL today!
We could finally budget it in...and I only got one because I want to go hunt down the instant-on ones; and they didn't have them there. Limited time frame today. No car until Wed.
I feel a tiny bit better. But, just a small bit.

6. I take it your local power company isn't subsidizing them?
Edited on Sun Apr-22-07 03:54 PM by Kutjara
I went out and bought a load of them late last year at about $7 a pop. Now I see my local grocery store selling them for $2.49 for a pack of four - courtesy of a subsidy from SoCal Edison. It might be worth checking your power company's website to see if they're offering any energy-saving subsidies.

:hi:

7. I don't think so but I'll check, thanks..
They are still $7 here at Food Lion, and if Duke Energy is gonna subsidize they will prob. do so through them because it is an NC based chain that has a store in most towns.
Would be nice...$7 a pop is gonna kick our asses; considering we work on a cash basis only.

9. Have a look here too:
http://www.dsireusa.org/

The site has a reasonably up-to-date list of incentives offered by government, energy companies and others, across the country.

5. I bought a pack for the kitchen and I'm going to replace them
They give off a real yellow light, and I have to find some soft whites for the kitchen, i'll put those throughout the house.

17. I've replaced every lamp in my house with 'em
Well, the ones that get used, anyway.

I wish they'd figure out how to make 'em the same size (height) as incandescent lamps, though. The 60-watt equivalent was too dim for my bedside lamp, and I had to modify the shade-holder thingie to fit a 100-watt equivalent on it.

All my ceiling fixtures are too small for 100s, too. The one in the bathroom's got one, but it's naked.

Naked???

Seriously..I hope things will even out, since it is so very beneficial to have them.
I'll put it in the lamp with the shade attached to the base; just in case. :)
