Let's send good vibes to Catshrink! |

She hasn't been around much, due to pressing family concerns. But let's let her know when she drops in that we are thinking about her and hope she is doing okay! :hi:

Family problems really sap your strength. I've had to deal with way too many of them in the last couple of months. Here's to Catshrink! :toast:

coming from the future "crazy cat lady on the hill" - what can I say, It's my retirement plan!!
I don't know you, but a couple of my cats should, as they are psychotic!
When life sucks look at the stars. Infinite worlds. Infinite problems. It helps with perspective. I just wish Bush would go to one and STAY THERE!
Seriously, when life sucks find a way to 'check out' for an hour, day, week........ it works. Sometimes there is only time for a couple of pertinent songs blasted out through headphones.....whatever works.
All the best, Gina

7. Wow! Thank you, Zomby. |
|
You're right, life has been difficult lately. Mom died New Year's Day. Although we expected it, nothing prepared me for the devastation I feel. I miss her so much!
I went back to work on Monday and the routine is good for me. Somehow losing mom always hits when I'm driving to work in the morning. Waves of grief hit like a tsunami.
So.... that's where I've been. I've posted a little bit since, but haven't been hanging out as much as usual.
Thanks for your kind thoughts, DU! I've missed you all.

Not to mention that my aunt who was helping care for mom in her last days is spreading malicious and false stories about my dad and my sisters and me. We are trying to grieve and come to grips with our loss -- and she's, well, really unreasonable. I was so shocked and confused by her behavior (wondering what I had done to piss her off) -- until my cousin intervened. He told her if she couldn't respect us and our grief to stay the heck away from us. He also told me she'd always been that way but that I don't see her enough to realize it.
Whatever. We sure don't need this family garbage rearing up right now. Mom was the sweetest woman in the world! Everyone loved her and will miss her.
And my poor dad! They were married 65 years!!! Can you believe it???? He is lost.
Thanks for being one of my outlets, DUers.

18. I am sorry for your loss, and it's "normal" for family crap to overflow |
|
when someone dies.. The most cohesive families often have rips around the edges when a family member dies.. It's sad because it usually involves people that you thought you knew, and you are startled by their behavior..
Hopefully the geographic distance can heal the rift , in time..

19. Yeah -- it's stress and all that, right? |
|
You're right, I was startled by it. Luckily, this aunt is leaving on Sunday so only the "good aunt" will still be here. This will be a huge relief.
Thanks for your thoughts!

When I lost my dad every time I heard that song by Mike & the Mechanics I lost it. It still gets me going. You know the expression about time and healing and all that - it really is true. You never forget, it just gets easier.

I don't want to forget my mom.... and I know that's not what you meant. I lost it tonight when I left my dad's house. He said, "drive carefully. your mother and I need you." He always says this but now, Mom is gone. We both realized what he said and stared at each other in stunned silence. I hugged him goodbye again. It's hard.

10. Catshrink -- I am so very sorry about your mom's passing... |
|
Edited on Wed Jan-14-04 10:41 PM by rezmutt
Sending lots of good thoughts your way --
On edit: I know how tough your path is right now -- I lost my mom last year at this time. It was very, very tough, and her death started a chain of events (many of them sad, some very good) that didn't slow down until...now. It took a *year* for things to quiet down!
No matter how old we are, losing a parent always makes one feel a bit like an orphan.
Like the cliche says, one day -- one step -- at a time.
Love to you --

14. I've heard that it takes a year... |
|
of course I'll always miss my mom. But I've heard that after a year has passed, something happens. My (other) aunt said that about her husband's death.
Thanks for the good wishes. I'm sorry to learn of your mom's passing. Yes, I do feel orphaned. So many small memories of her --- and big too -- just keep flooding over me. The worst time of day, for some strange reason, is driving to work in the morning. I'll find myself laughing or sobbing, sometimes both.
One day at a time....trite but true.
