just spent $1600, ask me anything |
|
it was a Dell computer. Of course, I could've managed with the old one, but 1 GB of memory and a 19 inch flat screen were too good to pass.

5. Dell's a repuke company, and you can homebuild for less |
|
19" monitor - <$200. Main box: AMD Athlon 2700+ CPU, 1GB RAM, 200GB HD, Sound Blaster Audigy, Nvidia 4600 video w/128MB RAM, Abit NF7 mobo for $700.
19" flat screen. LCD or CRT? They make flat screen CRTs and a 19" LCD monitor will run you $1600 on its own, so it must be a CRT.
And I hate their support. I did back when you didn't ship the bloody thing to some other country... I told the tech of the hard drive's imminent failure and he didn't listen... oops. Glad I had my customer, a LAWYER, archive his data first...

Yep The True Nerds make their own for much much less.
Dell Support is truly the worst ( I have a Dell Laptop )
Their PC Parts are the lowest Quality too...its a shame they charge ppl so much for so little.

"19 in 1901FP Dell Ultrasharp™ Digital Flat Panel Display". That was a major reason why I got it. A 17 inch was included and I added $260 for a larger one. I don't have time or the patience anymore to build it myself. A few years ago, I would've. Now I just need a computer that works. When it breaks, I want them to replace it with a new one. As far as them supporting Bush I know, but what can I do; a lot of companies support him.

...price I built a computer a couple of months ago with:
Chaintech 9CJS Zenith mother board (i875 chipset with 800 Mghz frontside bus, onboard Audigy Dolby sound, 100 Mbs ethernet, gigabit ethernet, highspeed USB, firewire, and lots of other sweet goodies).
3.0 Ghz P4 (hyperthreading) CPU 1 Gb Dual channel DDR 400 RAM 2 80 Gb IDE hard drives Chaintech GeForce FX 5600 graphics card (256 Mb onboard RAM) DVD/CD-RW drive 1.44 Mb floppy drive Solid steel Antec Case w/375 watt power supply 19 inch ViewSonic P90f Professional Series Monitor Logitech keyboard and optical mouse
I threw in a backup PCI hardware modem pulled from from my old computer.
Total cost was about $1600 plus a couple of evening's work. Warranty, you ask? Well, most of the individual components came with warranties, but more importantly, by directly controlling the quality of the components I got what is probably the best warranty of all-- top quality for the price.
Here's a serious recommendation-- even though computer manufacturers get volume discounts, they ALWAYS cut quality somewhere in order to make their profits. You can always get a better system for the same price or the same system for less if you build it yourself. And it's easy, too.

And I'm fairly computer savvy. But is there a guide or anything to help? I'd hate to just try this with nothing to go on. Cher

13. now what about software??? |
|
yep, you can do the hardware more cheaply but you are going to spend at least a couple hundred on the OS unless you are a Linux kind of person...he also got the flat panel monitor (i think, he said flat screen...could be just a nice monitor). And if he got some of the MS Office components installed...well, there's another couple hundred. They screw you with the software...

I can't spend days and days building it and worrying about jumper settings, wires etc. It would've been fun a while back but now I just need it to work.

LaRouche is not a democrat - never has been.
His is a self-declaration - but his views have never had anything to do with the national party, nor has he ever had any democratic voter following.
He is also convicted felon - I believe related to credit card fraud related to those duped into donating to his "campaigns."
Throughout the eighties (and beyond) he advocated for sending all AIDS and HIV patients to an island for exile/permanent quarantine. He was so serious about this that he worked toward getting state level ballot initiatives to this effect - to create state laws to enforce quarantines.
He has been "running" for president as a "self-declared" democrat since the 1970s. I first saw one of his paid tv ads in 1983. His organization has been considered a cult since long before then. He has never had a following beyond his bizarre cult group.
Why give legitimacy to a man whose views are at odds with the Democratic party, who is a convicted felon (who scammed/cheated donors to his "political campaign"), and who is so homophobic as to advocate seriously discriminatory legislation?

came in next-to-last when I took that SelectSmart test to determine which candidate's views were closest to mine. As for buying a Dell computer, I am using one right now and would recommend it highly.:-)

other memory and those assh-les charge a fortune to upgrade (Rambus /Dell memory, plus you have to buy it in pairs), so I decided to buy another one and get 19 inch LCD screen.
