OUCH! Rosie O'Donnell Loses $10 million on Boy George musical
NEW YORK -- When Nathan Lane returned to "The Producers" last month, he added a new joke to the smash Mel Brooks musical that had his opening-night audience howling.

"Never put your own money in a show. That's taboo," he warned.

Unfortunately, Rosie O'Donnell did -- backing the Boy George musical, "Taboo," to the tune of $10 million, a figure that could be the most money ever lost by a single investor on Broadway. The production closes Feb. 8 after a turbulent, unprofitable three-month run.

1. Ya know...
sometimes ya see something coming from 10 miles away and just have to shake your head that others don't see it. Did she REALLY expect to make money on a show about Boy George?

Luckily, she can afford it, so she can do what she wants.

4. I'm not so keen on her, either
Not that she can't be funny, and she's been a wonderful advocate for adoption, but her hypocritic anti-gun stance and her shmarmy, Oprah-like faux emotionalism turn me off.

Maybe Rush is moonlighting. Remember Jeff Christie, kids.

THEN the Flock of Seagulls.

After that, she'll do "Wham! UK" The Musical.

13. I feel sorry for Boy George
I read his autobiography when it came out and found him to be a nice guy – troubled, but nice – and very funny. He came from a large working class Irish family.

15. He is a nice guy from what I understand
I wish I had more info on the play though. It was one of those productions that you could tell were horrible from the start.

Heck, Elton John makes animated musicals now. Here's hoping that Boy gets a better show going the next time around.

But, if you had seen the previews of the show, you'd be shaking your head too. It never should have had a run.

16. I saw the show in London
and I thought it was very good, if not great. I'm not sure how many of you have seen it on Broadway, but my understanding is that its book was rewritten to make it more amenable to American mainstream tastes, which was probably a mistake. I really like George, both as a singer and as a DJ.

BTW, in London, it was in a small theatre, not in a huge house. It may have been an overreach to turn it into a major production.
