Scariest animated Disney character?
My top 3:

Chernobog (The demon from Fantasia's "Night On Bald Mountain"

The Horned King (From "The Black Cauldron")

Maleficent (From "Sleeping Beauty")

(The evil queen from "Snow White" gets honorable mention)

1. Evil Snow White queen all the way, man

When I saw that film as a little kid she freaked me the crap out. The whole idea of her changing into a wretched old hag was really terrifying. :D Always liked the witch in Oz, though. Go figure.

2. My kids voted for me ...
Two of your initial three agreed:

The Demon from "Night on Bald (sic) Mountain"
The Horned King from "The Black Cauldron"

but one entry (from my oldest!) deposed Malificent:

Ursula the nasty octopus from "Little Mermaid"

5. Chernoborg scared me witless and the first time I saw
Fantasia I was 22ish!

Maleficent comes next.

Ursula was just too bitchy; I would love to have dinner with her.

I like mine just plain mean.

11. Maleficent
She is so scary. She also says something about using all the powers of hell, which is a line that I don't think Disney would have a character say in this day and age.

I haven't seen Snow White in a really long time, so I don't remember the queen that well.

14. Slightly off topic: My 4 year old nephew loves the villains.
For Christmas he got a set of 6 villain dolls: Ursula, Cruella, The Evil Queen, Maleficent, Jaffar, and Captain Hook. He plays with them constantly. Right after the holidays, he watched each of the movies in succession, and as the villains were defeated he would lay the dolls face down at the bottom of the stairs.

We're all a little scared.

17. I forgot about Jafar.
He was NAS-TEE!

(I loved in "Aladdin" when he turned into a BIG snake.)

Not only was he in that "Return of Jafar" video, he made a guest appearance in the "Hercules" animated series.
(He made a deal with Hades, but Hercules and Aladdin outsmart him, and he dissolves into the River Styx.)

15. I completely forgot about the Black Cauldron!
I took my son when he was about 5 because it was a Disney cartoon.
The Horned King wins hands down.
it scared the crap out of my son!
almost twenty years later, he told me how much it affected him at that age.
He really doesn't remember what he did when we went to Disneyland, but recalls having fun. he does remember the Horned King!

16. gotta go with the horned king
the black cauldron is interesting in tht it's a kid's movie, but not by much. I wonder if they weren't trying to tap into that Hobbit and Lord of the Rings niche that was around in the early 80s with those two animated features.

the black cauldron was so dreary and dark, the kids were definitely spooked by it
