Irony, anyone? "Britney Believes in 'Sanctity' of Marriage"
Edited on Thu Jan-15-04 10:27 AM by mark0rama
Wow, just like a Republican - to say how much one believes in marriage, even though hers lasted only 50-some hours.

Note how the AP couldn't resist using the photo of her kissing Madonna - are they tweaking the anti-gay "sanctity-of-marriage" types? Could the AP have a sense of humor?

1. What's wrong with the photo o rhte statement?
"sanctity" means The quality or condition of being considered sacred; inviolability..

sacred means: Dedicated or devoted exclusively to a single use, purpose, or person

So why does that picture violate that rule? And she made a mistake in her decision to marry her childhood friend...big deal..it happens all the time. But for her to say that she believes that marriage should be a dedication to another person for life...well i have no problem with that. And i can't stand her music just for the record, nor do i think she is particularly attractive. As for the thing with madonna, the more this kind of thing happens the better. The more the American public is confronted with the reality that women sometimes love women and that me sometimes love men, the better off our society will be. Was it a cheap publicity stunt? maybe, i dont know, and i dont care, im just glad that two prominent women feel they can "get away" with something like this where ten years ago both of their careers would have been ruined.

2. All of what you say is true, of course.
I was thinking of those who have co-opted the phrase "sanctity of marriage" (just as they did "family values") to push a (usually anti-gay) political agenda, and imagining that the juxtaposition of the headline and the photo would be hard for them to reconcile.

4. Gotcha
yep, im actually very happy she used that particular phrase. I love the fact that the generation after me is much more accepting of homosexuality, (I'm 30). One of my best friends is gay and he went through hell growing up, (though i can proudly say that when he came out of the closet, not a single one of our circle of friends was unaccepting, which i know made the whole process easier). I'm sure it is still difficult for teens coming to grips ith their own sexuality, but cultural acceptance is progressing nicely, and Ms. Spears and Madonna and Ms Aguilera going ahead and sharing a kiss onstage is just a symptom of this.

3. Some people...........
shouldn't keep opening their mouths. Spears is one of them. This bubble-headed ornament should stick to 'entertaining', if that's what you want to call it. She doesn't have the brains that God gave gravel.
