DU drivers, please help me do some research for a friend.
I am currently living in South Korea, and one of my friends has to do some research for his university marketing class. It's strictly about Hyundai motors, as they're the biggest exporter of cars from South Korea. So if you could just take some time to answer these 4 questions, I would really realy appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

1. What name do people prefer; EF Sonata or Hyundai EF Sonata?

2. What kind of people buy Hyundai cars?

3. What do people think about when buying a car, and what is the most important thing?

4. How can Hyundai improve it's image in North America?

Again, thanks for your time.

1. My preferences...........
EF Sonata
People without much money looking for an entry level auto
Safety
I don't know, Hyundai doesn't have a very good image, at least where I live. Make them a little more durable?

2. Sure. No problem.
1. Might as well leave the Hyundai name. I don't know what EF is. I suspect most people don't.

2. People who can't afford Hondas and Toyotas.

3. Will it last until the payments are finished?

4. It's a slow process. Hyundai had SUCH a bad reputation for building crap in the beginning. But, their cars are getting better and more reliable. I suspect word of mouth of satisfied owners will help. No quick fix for them, though.

1. What name do people prefer; EF Sonata or Hyundai EF Sonata?

I dno't know. If you're asking what name *I* prefer, I don't care, becuase let's facve it, it's just gonna called the Sonata either way by people. The full name seems rather long, though.

2. What kind of people buy Hyundai cars?

Hip and trendy yuppies? Or else people with not much cash. I can't remember if Hyundai is a cheap or an expensive car.

3. What do people think about when buying a car, and what is the most important thing?

Shallow people think about style and image and getting the biggest thing they possibly can and what other people will think of their car; other, more normal people, think about mileage, safety, and getting the amount of car they need (do they need room for kids? Do they haul a lot of stuff? etc.)

4. How can Hyundai improve it's image in North America?

Donating a huge amount of money to the democrat party to help us eliminate Shrub, and being very public and vocal about why they are doing it, would be a good start. :-) Otherwise, I just don't know. Seems Hyundai has a good reputation here, so far as I can tell.

Sorry, I'm really not much help here. I haven't bought a car since 1985.

EF Sonata

People without much money looking for an entry level auto.

Styling is what ppl look for, Comfort and Performance.

Hyundai doesn't have a very good image in the US, Make another Truck and sell it for much less.

6. Sure. Why not/
1. What name do people prefer; EF Sonata or Hyundai EF Sonata?

Either, but if I had to choose I's say "EF Sonata"

2. What kind of people buy Hyundai cars?

Thrifty people or entry-level buyers

3. What do people think about when buying a car, and what is the most important thing?

Reliability

4. How can Hyundai improve it's image in North America?

Build an actual "sports car". The Tiburon is cute, fun to drive, and "sporty", but nothing grabs the attention of Americans like raw speed and good looks.

7. Okay -here's my best shot...
1. What name do people prefer; EF Sonata or Hyundai EF Sonata?

EF Sonata

2. What kind of people buy Hyundai cars?

Entry level buyers

3. What do people think about when buying a car, and what is the most important thing?

Since the market seems to be entry-level buyers, I think reliability would be a strong suit.

4. How can Hyundai improve it's image in North America?

Marketing and giving back to the community of their purchasers, i.e eductional contributions, local food banks, local support of charitable marathons.

9. People think about, "How the heck do you pronounce Hyundai?"
is it hun-day, or hun-die? And why do Koreans say hyun-day? What is with that?
(hint: I speak Korean, and this whole business is irritating. I really think an American could pronounce Hyundai correctly)

10. Well if you speak Korean, then you should know how to pronounce it...
right? :D

For the record it's pronounced Hyunday.

Now then, about the four questions?;-)

11. Okay, okay..
but just for the record, this is a goofy way to do market research. Now that I've got all my curmudgeonly grumps off my chest...

1. What name do people prefer; EF Sonata or Hyundai EF Sonata?
I like choice 2, although the EF at the end makes even more sense, like a Honda Civic LX.

2. What kind of people buy Hyundai cars?
Not a clue. Just a guess, younger people looking for a solid Asian import who can't handle the price of a Honda or Toyota

3. What do people think about when buying a car, and what is the most important thing?
I think about reliability and price, with reliability being number one. I think many people also think of what the car says about them, and that may well be the most important for most people.

4. How can Hyundai improve it's image in North America?
In my opinion, improve reliability - I have an image of Hyundais - that should be Hyundaidll, I guess - as cars that don't hold up as well as the Japanese makes. Also, the pronunciation thing is irritating - did I mention that?

12. As a Hyundai owner....

1. Hyundai EF Sonata

2. We were surprised by the reasonable price for our top of the line XG350, looks like a Jag, smooth comfortable ride, all the bells and whistles. Excellent warranty, 10 year/100,000 Bumper to Bumper. Safe...front and side airbags.

3. For us it was a good value car that was big enough for 2 adults, 2 kids. Warranty warranty warranty

4. Hyndai can improve it's image by simply improving it's product. It has come an awfully long way since it's introduction into the North American market and if run properly can continue its upward trend. Essentially keeping the prices low, the warranties as good as they can and staying up with other manufacturers as far as options go.

This coming from not only a Hyundai owner, but I used to live in Korea back in 1980-83..and they had these Pony'e everywhere. Taxis by the millions in the cities, fmailies and businesses owned them...they were practically all there were. The Koreans drove the shit out of them, and though they didn't look good, they managed to keep going and going.
