59. Well, he saw the picture that

Issac painted. He knew what he had to do.

I suspected when he saw it what would happen. I knew he had to get to Candice first, though.

What I've wondered for a long time now is this: if he were to obtain Peter's brain would he only absorb Peter's initial power or would he absorb everything that Peter had learned? If he were to absorb everything at once he wouldn't be impossible to kill-he'd probably die instead from lack of control.

And Claire-even though he took her brain we know that he can still die. Claire died when he cut into her brain so he can die the same way. What I don't understand is why future Hiro didn't go back in time to Charlie's murder, freeze time and while time was frozen merely chop off Sylar's head?

Maybe I think too much. Seems too easy to me to still kill Sylar (though I'm going back to the understanding evolution site to see what power would be able to defeat him. Supposedly Molly Walker, the little girl that was placed in hiding early on in the season after Parkman found her at her family's murder scene, is the only one that can defeat Sylar.)

At least Peter did have a really kick-ass scar.

on edit-and Future Hiro is pretty damn cute.

61. And even if he didn't absorb all of Peter's powers
would the fact that Sylar already has so many powers immediately kill him if he stole Peter's primary ability? I have to assume that Sylar's use of the powers he's absorbed is different from the way Peter accesses them--and Peter had to learn how to control his ability because being around more than a certain number of heroes could potentially be fatal to him. Sylar is sort of a "multi-hero" (or "multi-villain," technically) and it seems as if Peter's ability could overload and kill him outright once he absorbed it.

I remember Sylar seeing Peter go invisible and saying something like "Oh, I can't wait to try that one," but would he really be able to go invisble since Peter can access that power but doesn't really possess it? I guess we'd have to know more about the mechanics of how Sylar implements the abilities he's stolen to really know for sure.

And yeah, Peter looked like a badass with that scar. :)

64. I agree with what you're saying.
Glad to meet another person on the boards who is overthinking this show!

But really-I would think that mere access to Peter's power would cause a meltdown.

65. This is my opinion only.
In order for him to use his powers he has to focus on the person. if he came into contact w/ that many powers at once-or one very hard to control power-he wouldn't be able to focus properly on what needed to be done.

He becomes the exploding man. Yes, he has Claire's power but, in a crisis like that, it's probably only enough to keep him alive.

And the scar gets rid of his emo look.

60. According to Tim Kring initial reports about season two,
yes, a big part of one character's storyline has more than been hinted at.

Hint: someone who was on a quest to find a historical item this season will find out a bit more of the history behind that item next season-and possibly about himself.

As soon as I heard those comments about "being special" from "Nathan" during the previews of this week's episode last week I knew it was Sylar! Though I was expecting Hiro to finally end up back in the Cretaceous period.

Also, the idiots at my university's public safety department just happened to think that 9:03 would be the perfect time for a fire drill for my dormitory! ;(

I almost gave up on it, but frankly, they've come a long way.

I'm kinda bummed that we have to go back to the past storyline again now, as almost every character was immensely more interesting in the future. Particularly Peter and Matt Parkman.

Did we see Future Hiro die? Future Sylar is right outside the door, so he might get to Future Hiro.

Time travel hijinx ensue.

Future Sylar going back in time to stop current Hiro. . . oooooh.

Other thoughts:

Future Matt Parkman is a complete dick. And how could he NOT know that Nathan was Sylar?

RIP HRG! Best character on the show.

Couldn't the Haitian "see" Sylar's memories and maybe wipe them out? No memory = less threat, maybe de-evilize Sylar?

80. what's rebellious about not understanding the fascination with network television broadcasts?

if making a deliberate choice to reduce the amount of advertising inputs (and advertising is the basis for most television programming content) in one's life is rebellious, then i guess i'm a rebel. i just thought it was discernment.

82. Area Man Constantly Mentioning He Doesn't Own A Television
CHAPEL HILL, NC–Area resident Jonathan Green does not own a television, a fact he repeatedly points out to friends, family, and coworkers–as well as to his mailman, neighborhood convenience-store clerks, and the man who cleans the hallways in his apartment building.

"I, personally, would rather spend my time doing something useful than watch television," Green told a random woman Monday at the Suds 'N' Duds Laundromat, noticing the establishment's wall-mounted TV. "I don't even own one."

According to Melinda Elkins, a coworker of Green's at The Frame Job, a Chapel Hill picture-frame shop, Green steers the conversation toward television whenever possible, just so he can mention not owning one.

"A few days ago, Annette was saying her new contacts were bothering her," Elkins said. "The second she said that, I knew Jonathan would pounce. He was like, 'I didn't know you had contacts, Annette. Are your eyes bad? That a shame. I'm really lucky to have almost perfect vision. I'm guessing it's because I don't watch TV. In fact, I don't even own one."

83. that's pretty funny
Edited on Wed May-02-07 02:20 PM by datasuspect
i used to like the onion before they sold out. (ha ha)

actually i'm surrounded by televisions. there at least three in the place where i stay.

during the daytime, they stay off.

evenings, i usually go outside and read a book or stare listlessly into space.

television was a difficult addiction to break. it's like the default thing to do, a completely passive activity that accomplishes nothing.

anyway, i don't need to have one on if it's in the room with me anymore.

kinda nice in a way.

give a hoot, read a book, and no, stephen king doesn't count.

toodles

I do, however, TIVO a few shows.

I love that Onion piece, though.

74. Does Sylar eat the brains?
I've never been quite clear on that. Does he only absorb the powers if he kills and/or eats the other hero or is he like Peter and only has to be around them?

78. Well, consider the way they've handled the crime scenes
They've never said "and we found the brains over there," so I conclude that the gray matter is not at the site. Presumably, since he wasn't able to absorb the acute-hearing-woman's power by proximity, nor was he able to grab Claire's or Peter's abilities, he must... um... process the brains in some way to do so.

Sylar is awesome, however. He could have been totally lame and trite, but he's been the most gratifyingly creepy character on all of recent television IMO.

79. i don't think so
I think his 'power' is that he figures out how things work, and by removing the brain of the heroes, he somehow gains their power. Eating it seems kind of unnecessary. Obviously, as we've seen by Claire and Peter, the brain is the essential part of the superhero power, disable it or remove it, and you render their "power" useless. Maybe cutting someone open and examining the brain is how he gains his powers, not necessarily by eating the brain.

84. I don't think he eats them.
He was a watchmaker and repairer by trade at first. He said then that he was very good at figuring out how things work.

My grandfather, when he was alive, was a tinkerer. He loved radios and used to take them apart and put them back together on a regular basis, just to figure out how they worked.

IMO, this is exactly what Sylar (or Gabriel Gray, that is) does-he removes the brain, takes it with him, takes it apart and reassembles it to figure out how it works.

I had forgotten about the tinkering thing. Makes perfect sense. This is one of the things I love about the internet -- other people to help me analyze Lost, Heroes and Battlestar Galactica.

91. A convincing theory, but...
In the case of the metal-melting guy and the super-hearing woman, Sylar absorbed their powers in astonishingly short order, which means (I guess) one of two things:

His basic power is the ability to perform that brain-analysis in seconds or minutes

or

He absorbs the power from the brain in some more direct manner

Hard to say which IMO, given the limited onscreen evidence either way...

94. Actually, we don't know the amount of time.
The woman-it could have been an overnight thing. She was not discovered until the next day-plenty of time to take it w/ him and dissect it.

And the metal man-that too could have been hours. Suresh had to travel to reach him while Sylar already knew of the location. The metal man just assumed it was Suresh at the door since he had called him. In his case Sylar didn't have to take it w/ him. He might have had a few hours in which to dissect it right there in the victims home.

They've never said that the brains have been consumed. I really think he's been tinkering w/ them instead of eating them. Besides, the evolution site that the show has up basically explains his power and it supposedly comes from observation. (Meaning consumption would do no good. Now, if he chooses to consume afterward for kicks I wouldn't be surprised but to initially gain the power I'd say no. It was also mentioned that he didn't have to kill to gain the power but chose to do so.)

95. Ah ha! I haven't been to that site, but that's good info
So maybe the brain-eating would just be a sort of epicure's diversion, rather than a necessary driver of his power.

96. Exactly.
I'll try to find the site for you sometime. It explains exactly what each person's power is, how it works and it gives you an idea of what future heroes will have. (I need to find the site to find out exactly what power Molly Walker has-according to the commercials her power is the only one that can stop Sylar.)

Also, be sure to read the weekly comic at nbc.com for Heroes. They've explained quite a bit of the backstory about how Linderman and Papa Petrelli actually met.

I try not to say too much because I never remember if I heard it on the show or read it on one of the many interactive sites. (The voting thing that Hana is doing right now is really kinda fun.)

89. I think you should all take up a collection and buy me the entire
collection of episodes of both Heroes and Lost. I watched them at first but had to miss 1 episode then got so lost I couldn't catch up. I'd love to have both on DVD in their entirety up to this point. :P

Jericho is great too, IMHO.

97. It was an awesome episode...
although our DVR stopped recording before it ended, so I don't know what happened at the end.

Did Hiro and Ando time travel out of the room?
Did something happen during the fight with Peter and Nathan/Sylar?
Why is Parkman such a dick in the future?
What happened ti Mika? Jessica/Nikki?
Interesting about the Haitian.

What was really intriguing was the parallels to what is going on in the world today.

98. Niki stated earlier in the episode that she lost Mikah and D.L.
during the explosion, though D.L. was one of the people that Hiro requested when speaking w/ Bennett.

The episode should be up right now at nbc.com. They usually some decent commentary from the actors along w/ the episode. Watch the commentary sometime and you can tell that the actors seem to enjoy working with each other.
