8. Same here...also "reality" TV
People always ask me whether I saw "the game" or if I'm glad Sanjay (sp?) was voted off, or whatever, and I have no clue what they're talking about most of the time. Nor do I care...

I've tried watching some of that stuff, but just can't stay interested. I always end up switching back to a news show, turning the box off and picking up a book, or logging on to DU. So, I'm out of touch with the culture. But happily so.

9. Same here
I still have a lot of lessons yet to be learned in life, but one I've got down pretty well is never to let a few people - particularly those who don't have any of your best interests at heart - define who you are. No matter how hard or how publicly they may try.

I also just don't care much about pro sports, the fact that I have .43 in my bank account or who wins "Dancing With the Stars".

I am, however, quite happy to cross paths with you and other DU friends here today!

I enjoy watching my kids play baseball or basketball, but getting all gung ho about people I don't know and taking it really seriously is not me. Someone was talking to me about the Yankees recently who also knew my ex-husband (he's a rabid Yankee fun), I just said, "I have no clue about the Yanks and I don't have to have a clue anymore." (I know enough to know he's got to be grumpy about it though.) :D

Edited on Wed May-02-07 08:49 AM by oktoberain
I really could care less. I wear what I want to wear (which sometimes involves a favorite pair of faded Levis and a t-shirt, and sometimes involves wearing my pajamas all day). My hair isn't cut or styled in a "fashionable" way--it's just long, and I usually wear it in a ponytail. I don't wear makeup unless I'm going to a special event, and even then, it's extremely minimal. I own precisely three pairs of shoes--one pair of sneakers, one pair of cheap Birkenstock-ripoff sandals, and one pair of black leather "dressy" sandals for special occasions. I don't care about the social standard that says I need to be thin and well-dressed in order to be attractive, because I don't care about being attractive. If ThinkBlue1966 ever dumps me, I'd rather find someone who's interested in *who I am*, as opposed to how well I fit society's accepted vision of a woman.

If I hear that something is "cool" or "stylish", it makes me *less* likely to be interested in it.

Edit: Oh yes--and I don't pluck my eyebrows. I consider that a form of torture.

72. George Tenet.
As much dirt as he could be dishing, that he drops only a minor bombshell just as his book hits the stores says he's still observing the omerta.

If he had the kind of courage and integrity required to disclose classified information incriminating the * Admin, well, he never would have been appointed DCI by *.

82. Celebrity culture!!!
I don't give a shit about celebrities. I don't see why we should be forced to like someone because they have more money and get drunk out in public.

90. All the TV shows that people obsess about.
I gave up watching weekly TV shows when The West Wing and Everybody Loves Raymond went off the air. Now I watch Jeopardy, some Britcoms and history shows on PBS, movies on TCM, some of the news on MSNBC (especially Olbermann), and that's about it.

93. Sports of any kind.
Just about all TV except new episodes of the Simpsons.
Celebrity gossip.
Soap operas.
Commercial radio. I only listen to classical on NPR, or local Pacifica station, or XM since we have no liberal radio stations on AM here.
Cable TV.

wearing fashionable clothes
buying new clothes all the time

exotic food I cannot tolerate, like sushi, or weird spicy stuff. And having people tell me "Oh it's not that hot". I have learned the hard way NOT to believe them.
