Jack Russell Terrier dies after saving 5 children from Pitbulls
omfg

A Jack Russell terrier has died after saving five children from a mauling by two savage pitbulls.

The tiny dog, called George, leapt to the defence of the children when the two rogue pitbulls threatened them on the way to a dairy in the Taranaki township of Manaia.

Richard Rosewarne, 11, said the pitbulls came up behind them and were going for his brother Darryl Wilson, 4. "George tried to protect us by barking and rushing at them, but they started to bite him -- one on the head and the other on the back," he told the Taranaki Daily News. "We ran off crying and some people saw what was happening and rescued George."

But nine-year-old George was so badly ripped apart he had to be put down.

3. I've been bitten by a Jack Russell
They can be nasty, vicious little four-legged terrorists! Fearless is in the hand of the bitten.

6. If I were to choose a dog with no fear. . .
Who would always run to the rescue, it would be a Jack Russell. Brave George has earned a special spot across the Rainbow Bridge.

9. As the saying goes
It's not the size of the dog, it's the size of the fight in the dog. Or something or other.

12. That's correct
It's fun at the park, to watch the little skinny dogs who want to mix it up with the big ones.

14. Especially with terriers
Two of my friends have a cairn terrier (think Toto) and describe him as "a wolfhound in a convenient pocket size". These little guys just have so little fear. It's like god never told them that they are small, and no one's had the heart to explain it to them.

Last year, I accompanied my friends while they walked their dog, Sam. While walking we encountered a man walking his 2 dogs--a border collie and a Staffordshire Bull. Sam's "mom" was bitten by a SBT when she was a kid, and started getting real nervous. Sam picked up on that, and as soon as the bull reached her nose out to sniff at him, Sam snapped at it with a mighty growl! Bear in mind, she was about 3 times his size. The other dog was so startled she twisted out of her collar and cowered behind the legs of her master.

One of my friends scooped Sam up, and I held the collie while the SBT's master got her back on her leash.

Little George Dog's courage doesn't surprise me. You did your breed proud, boy.

15. That's aweful.
:(

The owner of those Pitbulls should be spending time in jail for not training and caring for those dogs properly.

I feel so bad for that JRT, and his family.
You just know those kids are traumatized and are going to have a phobia of Pitbulls.

20. What IS a pit bull?
Several different breeds are called "pit bulls", but "pit bull" is not a breed.

American Pit Bull Terrier?
American Staffordshire Terrier?
American Bulldog?
Staffordshire Bull Terrier?

Th media hype and misidentification is rampant. Most people cant spot a "real" one in a line-up. So, when an attack occurs, it's so much more dramatic to say it was a "Pit bull".

This is always interesting:

26. It's like defining pornography
People know a pit bull when they see one, regardless of the AKC designation!

27. It's like defining pornography, difficult to put into words, but people

know a pit bull when they see one. I think the term now has two related meanings. There are the AKC standard pit bulls and there are the dogs people call pit bulls. Pit bull has become a generic term akin to hound or retriever. People use it to describe a medium to large, heavily muscled, short coated dog with small ears and strong, broad jaws.

Using dogs which match the AKC definition to defend dogs who fit the generic definition is missing the point.

The Jack Russell survived the fire too, but as my friend reported, he would have sacrificed himself for her. They are just amazing friends. Poor George.

I hope you are enjoying a mighty big steak up in doggy heaven.

JRT have a little too much energy for me to own one, but they sure are brave and adorable. Thank goodness he was there to help those children. A furry little guardian angel.
